Donohoe Construction Company, a large and established general contractor headquartered in Washington, DC, has an immediate need for highly motivated Construction Laborers. General laborers, also known as construction laborers and helpers, perform basic yet important physical work tasks at building construction sites. The key traits of general laborers are: physical strength, flexibility to interact with diverse craft workers, and the ability to work on high-rise projects, underground or in hot and cold weather conditions.

Donohoe Construction Company (DCC), founded in 1955, is now one of the largest general contractors in the Washington area. This division has built over 1,000 projects across the spectrum of commercial, residential, institutional, and government buildings. 

Responsibilities

• Construct and later disassemble reinforcement braces, concrete forms, scaffolds and temporary structures
• Transport bricks, cans of paint, cinder blocks, drywall sheets, electrical spools of wire, roofing panels and wooden wall panels
• Use shovels and backhoes to dig holes and smooth terrain
• Mop, brush, or spread paints, cleaning solutions, or other compounds over surfaces to clean them or to provide protection
• Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
• Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
• Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones
• Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities
• Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications
• Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed
• Remove trash, residual building debris and potential dangerous materials from construction sites

Qualifications

• Perform tasks both indoors and outdoors on all areas and aspects of construction projects
• Must be able to handle repetitive motion, have good dexterity, and alertness
• Move and exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects
• Requires ability to work with tools, lumber, and materials
• Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 50 lbs for 50 feet is required
