Overview

Contribute to customer satisfaction and manufacturing/purchasing efficiency by developing packaging specifications that facilitate scale-up, commercialization and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Create and revise packaging specifications for optimal performance as well as develop pallet patterns to support new product initiatives, manufacturing and distribution.
• Have an understanding of supplier manufacturing processes for all major packaging action items including film, printing, die cutting, folding carton/corrugated, and printed/unprinted paper wraps to provide technical expertise for solving packaging related quality issues.
• Maintain knowledge of developments and trends in packaging and key purchasing elements for possible applications with the company's present and future products.
• Work as a member of New Product Project Teams from concept development through product and packaging development and full commercial launch. Assure projects proceed on timeline meeting project objectives for product character, packaging structure/presentation and cost of goods.
• Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
• Participate in product introduction teams, to deliver new products to market.
• Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of common packaging equipment.
• Working knowledge of package materials such as film (barrier, microwavable), paperboard (browning trays, folding cartons, blister cards) and decoration methods.
• Remains current on packaging innovations throughout the industry and proliferates leading technologies within the Company
• Ability to manage multiple projects and still meet critical project milestones.
• Familiarity with ASTM and TAPPI standards related to packaging.
• Maintain positive, productive relationships with Research & Development, Manufacturing, Procurement, Marketing and suppliers. Conduct work in professional manner.
• Provide effective communication including face to face interactions, written/electronic updates and full technical reporting and recordkeeping.

EDUCATIONAL and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

B.S. or M.S. in Package or Industrial Engineering preferred or related Engineering Field, with some 0-3 years of experience.
