Job Description

DLZ Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer in Detroit, MI. Projects will be focused on public buildings and multi-discipline projects.Duties & Responsibilities:

• Prepare engineering drawings and technical specifications for various types of projects including municipal, transit, justice, safety, maintenance structures, health care, water and wastewater treatment plants, and storm drainage structures.
• Design a variety of single- and multi-story structural systems including: structural steel, reinforced concrete structures, wood and timber framed construction, shallow and deep foundations, and masonry structures.
• Perform structural inspections and assessments on existing structures and develop reports including any necessary repair procedures.
• Develop structural analysis and design calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas and experience.
• Prepare construction cost estimates
• Perform construction phase activities including review of Contractor’s submittals and construction monitoring.
• Assist in preparation of proposals, fee estimates, scope of work and schedule.
• Provide technical leadership on design team and direct engineers and technical staff in the preparation of plans and specifications for major and complex structures, systems and equipment.
• Possess aptitude to act as a positive representative of the company and its core values.
• Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with Structural Engineering concentration required, Master’s degree preferred.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of MI required. Registered Structural Engineer (SE) in the state of IL will be added benefit.
• 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in structural engineering.
• AutoCAD / REVIT experience required.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and practice proactive time-management.
• Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites, which may require overnight stays, while complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
