Director, Accounting Operations Overview: The Director, Accounting Operations will lead the team responsible for the operations and controls surrounding accounting, sales tax functions and financial reporting. This function’s responsibilities demonstrate expertise in processing transactions, recording accounting entries, managing the general ledger and reconciliations, and interpreting and complying with technical accounting matters and financial reporting disclosure requirements, responsible for the financial integrity of our balance sheet and income statement. Through this function, stakeholders receive relevant insight and commentary on transaction-level and financial results for analysis and decision making. This role has direct leadership & management of the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, and Sales Tax teams. They are responsible for supporting and developing their direct reports and an environment that encourages continuous improvement in results and leadership of others. This position reports directly to the VP, Accounting & Finance. This position has direct reports. This role is a hybrid position; increased onsite presence will be required in the initial first months for onboarding and relationship building purposes. Responsibilities: Must be able to… Organizational Management: Develop a high-performing, diverse team that effectively collaborates with other teams in Digi-Key as well as external partners in support of Digi-Key’s values; lead and manage a group of # of team members. Responsible for establishing and managing annual operating targets aligned with company goals and objectives. Deliver service level support to internal and external customers consistent with established SLAs. To serve as the primary accounting partner for projects that drive operational effectiveness and efficiency. Collaborate with other functional areas in corporate, regional, and local operations on special projects. Deliver results individually and as a senior leader in a fast-paced, high-performance culture. Manage other assigned ad-hoc projects as set by the VP of Accounting and Finance. Financial and Cost Accounting: Oversee the financial and operational transaction processing. Responsible accurately and timely closing the financial system(s). Responsible for that team that executes monthly balance sheet reconciliations for all legal entities. Prepare and distribute reports and provide analysis/support as needed monthly. Provide technical accounting advice on accounting matters. Compliance: Responsible for coordinating support for the external accounting partners. Responsible for compliance with accounting standards and procedures. Entity Creation & Management Partnership & Support: In partnership with the VP Accounting Operations, and Sr. Manager, Finance, provide insight and advice on: Due diligence related to entity creation projects in areas of responsibility and expertise. Designing accounting processes in areas of responsibility for any newly created entities. Responsible for the implementation of accounting processes in areas of responsibility for any newly created entities. Continuous Improvement: Encourage and identify process improvement opportunities on as it relates to your area of responsibility. Serve as a change leader and champion for process improvements as part of the organization’s continuous improvement initiatives. Develop and implement accounting objectives, operating policies, and standards in support of the department and functional strategy. Manage and set the goals and objectives for the Accounting department team members. Influence others through information exchanges and active persuasion to gain cooperation of others. Implement new accounting standard changes and automation of accounting and reporting processes. Experience: Typically, 10 years of experience in accounting, finance and/or audit. Typically, 5 years managing teams with a focus on mentoring, coaching and performance management Advanced knowledge of major accounting software for both general ledger and regulatory accounting. Experience with ERP environments like Oracle, SAP, JDR, Microsoft Dynamics Proven experience collaborating with and building the capability of less experienced colleagues ERP implementation experience Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and verbal|written communication skills are required. Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams at all levels from individual contributors to executives. Superior influencing and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to influence change based on collaboration. Demonstrated ability to drive change within organizations. Strong business management and acumen skills. Detail oriented with the ability to think strategically. Demonstrated success working in a global, matrixed-environment with ability to influence without direct authority. Project & Change Management experience Experience with Lean / Six Sigma methods Competencies: Leadership & Development Strategic Thinking & Planning Visionary Tech-Savvy Communication & Influence – Written & Verbal – Internal & External – All Levels Risk-Aware Education|Certifications: Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting or another relevant field.
