VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS

Position Announcement

Dierbergs is seeking a Vice President of Operations who has a keen ability to lead effectively through influencing, motivating, and collaborating with diverse teams to contribute toward organizational success. This person is a dynamic leader with a broad set of experiences. They will be responsible for the strategy, evaluation, development, financial performance, and on-going management of 26 retail supermarkets including inventory management, outstanding execution and retail excellence, operational policies and procedures, store communication and labor management. This person will be a creative idea generator who is willing to take risks- not accepting the status quo and is focused on growth. They will build strong partnerships and work collaboratively with senior leaders to guide organizational strategies that will lead us into the future.

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the successful candidate will:

PROVIDE SENIOR LEADERSHIP – Provide strategic direction and internal operational oversight aligned with company goals and operating plans to maximize impact, effectiveness, and efficiencies. Demonstrate high level of initiative and willingness to take calculated risks in pursuing new ideas, activities, and programs aligned with the Dierbergs’ overall culture and purpose. Positively shape the culture by modeling the leadership behaviors aligned to company purpose and instill a culture of accountability and empowerment, performance-based management, teamwork, and other best practices to achieve the goals of the organization. Continually place focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to ensure a sense of belonging across the organization.

DRIVE OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE – Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements; work closely with department directors, operations team, and store directors to review process quality and prioritize opportunities for improvement. Manage regional Store Operations Supervisors and oversee store teams ensuring smooth ongoing cross-functional team partnerships to guarantee operational effectiveness and overall store performance Utilize technology, systems, and data to identify opportunities to present and implement key merchandising and operational initiatives that lead to sales and margin improvements, cost reductions, and profit growth. Lead the development and implementation of programs, which guide store management teams to adopt best practices with a goal of achieving consistent discipline and execution. Translate strategies and performance targets into short and long-term organizational objectives and use data to determine themes that will help drive future decisions. Leverage deep industry and competitive knowledge to anticipate new trends, developments, and future business needs to help drive the business forward.

COLLABORATE AND ADVISE – Build collaborative partnerships and effectively influence colleagues across operations, technology, marketing, finance, and HR to implement key initiatives. Establish strong collaborative relationships with procurement and marketing to ensure merchandising execution and marketing efforts are effectively meeting goals, driving traffic, and building basket size. 

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive operational leadership experience, preferably in a grocery, food or multi-faceted retail environment.
• P&L management experience.
• Ability to demonstrate a solutions-oriented mentality through blending a data driven and intuitive approach.
• Proven ability to build cross functional partnerships to make effective decisions collaboratively. 
• Strong technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
