Job Summary:

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC)s Bedford County Hospital (VBCH) diagnostic laboratories team, located in Shelbyville, Tennessee (TN), is seeking to hire a Phlebotomist, whom will have responsibilities for performing Phlebotomy and Customer Service with minimal guidance. The Phlebotomist is responsible for accessioning specimens or patient tissue materials for testing including packaging specimens or tissue materials to be sent out to referring laboratory. The Phlebotomist works closely with all laboratory staff, medical staff, and external customers. The Phlebotomist performs customer service functions including telephone etiquette and basic troubleshooting and problem resolution.

Additional responsibilities include light typing. good communication skills, and performing well in high stress situations. The Phlebotomist is a patient care provider whom will possess the knowledge, training, and experience needed to be competent in the following specific to the age of patients served; the ability to obtain and interpret information; a knowledge of growth and development; and an understanding of the range of treatments needed by these patients. The patients served include all age groups as follows: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Collecting venous and capillary whole blood specimens

Chain of Custody urine and venous blood specimens

Accessioning, labeling, procuring specimens for testing and transport

Registering patients and placing or deleting test orders in EMR/LIS, operation of LIS

Assisting technologists and Administrative Laboratory Director with laboratory operation as requested and where appropriate as checked competent

Position Shift:

VUMC Diagnostic VBCH laboratories, located at our Vanderbilt Bedford County Hospital (VBCH) Campus in Shelbyville, Tennessee, Fulltime, Monday-Friday, 4am-12:30pm CST
