Job Description

Dewberry is currently seeking a motivated Senior Professional Surveyor to provide oversight and project management for surveying services, focusing on and specializing in Surveys to Mark, Wall Checks, ALTA Surveys, Record Plats and Easements. This position would be in support of our Frederick, MD office and can be based out of any of our 4 Maryland Offices; Rockville, Lanham, Owing Mills, and Frederick, Maryland. 

The Senior Surveyor will perform a variety of tasks associated with land surveying and civil engineering, and will be required to work closely with existing senior professional staff, as well as technical staff across multiple disciplines – survey, engineering, planning and landscape architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Boundary and Topographic Survey Services, including plats, easements, and descriptions, offered through the Frederick office in coordination with engineering, planning and landscape architecture managers, or other internal/ external clients.
  • Establish scopes of work, project budgets and proposal writing.
  • Coordinate with internal/external clients including contractors.
  • Manage survey task/project budgets, schedule, invoicing and collections.
  • Provide guidance and direction to office staff and field crews – mentoring is an important aspect of this position.
  • Oversee survey aspects of civil engineering projects and/or directing preparation of all types of survey products.
  • Work with the field coordinator and assist with field crew coordination, scheduling and training as necessary.
  • Prepare/review/approve survey computations, cut sheets, etc. as necessary.
  • Responsible charge for survey work being performed under your supervision and licensure.
  • Provide guidance and direction to office staff and field crews.
  • Perform Boundary Surveys/Surveys to Mark, ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, Topographic and As-Built Surveys.
  • Manage and oversee production of Record Plats, Easement and Right-of-Way plats/descriptions.
  • Prepare survey products for private and public sector clients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • District of Columbia Licensure required; District of Columbia Registration Preferred.
  • AAS or BS Degree in Surveying is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of land surveying; project management is required.
  • Experience with multi-story building construction is a plus.
  • Ability to relate to all types of personalities and develop strong business relationships.
  • Knowledge of national geodetic datums.
  • GPS data reduction, processing, static network controls; system equipment monitoring and maintenance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
  • Having or ability to obtain licensure in other states a plus (PA, WV).
  • Experience with SHA and MDTA surveys is a plus.
  • Experience with laser scanning is a plus.
  • Experience with 3D survey drawings a plus.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance is a plus.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Carlson Civil/Survey, Civil 3D.
  • Microstation experience and knowledge of INROADS is a plus.
  • Assist with, review and check survey computations, grade sheets as needed.
  • Data reduction and processing of files, traverse adjustments, etc.
  • Knowledge of Trimble (TBC) software a plus.
  • A successful track record of building client relationships in the surveying and related mapping industry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Have the ability to work out of town if required, flexible with work area.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in order to operate company vehicle.
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must be dependable.
