Job Description

DNV Maritime Region Americas is seeking a Ship Surveyor to join our New Orleans Fleet-In-Service (FIS) Station.

As a "Fleet in Service" Ship Surveyor you will be part of a highly qualified team of surveyors and auditors at the New Orleans FIS Station, serving ports in Texas, Louisiana, and offshore locations. You may also be required to support other ports and shipyards within Region Americas as needed. T his role will report to the Station Manager and be based in our DNV office in New Orleans, Louisiana.

What You'll Do

  • Attend vessels for surveys,
  • Ensure that the work or duties performed are in accordance with the Rules, Regulations, Instructions, Guidelines, and quality requirements of the organization and the instructions of the line management
  • Work on-site surveys during dry-docking and in-service
  • Work on major vessel conversions, alterations, or any technical matters involving all types of vessels
  • Support other class activities when necessary
  • Maintain the confidentiality of Clients' business, processes, designs, developments, and documentation at all times
  • Communicate to line management at the earliest appropriate opportunity if in receipt of information that is important to the reputation or integrity of the organization
  • Exhibit customer-oriented focus through promoting DNV, and by acting as a technical resource and support for customers
  • Support in technical service management to local client
  • Additional responsibilities may be required as needed

    Qualifications

    What is Required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant maritime experience in the ship in operations / offshore units
  • Qualifications or understanding for class & statutory surveyor for ships, new constructions and certification of materials and components
  • Must have valid driving license and be eligible to obtain TWIC Card for port entry permission
  • Travel requirement (~ 20-30 % of the year)
  • Team player but able to work independently on surveys / audits
  • Strong customer service orientation and understanding of client needs
  • Physical abilities are necessary to perform regular job functions such as working at Heights, climbing pilot ladders, crew boat launches in various local climate conditions, taking offshore trips by helicopter, and in / out confined spaces
  • Availability to work outside normal working hours, if the job requires
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
  • What is Preferred

  • DNV or other IACS class society qualifications as class & statutory surveyor
  • Audit experience preferred (ISM, ISPS, and MLC)
  • Engineer's or officer license or equivalent
  • Offshore experience
  • Immigration-related employment benefits, for example visa sponsorship, are not available for this position
