The Staff Counselor (SC) is a part-time, 25 hours per week, non-exempt position of Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) which must agree with and abide by our Statement of Faith and Ministry Principles. In addition, all employees must comply with policies as summarized in the DRM Employee Handbook.

POSITION SUMMARY

The SC should be someone with a developing counseling philosophy, who takes initiative, can multi-task, and is able to work with a diverse clientele. The SC provides assigned individual and group counseling hours for the New Life, and STAR Transitional Programs, in addition to a minimal number of hours (2-4 hours per week) in the youth department. The SC reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor at The Crossing.

Hiring Range:$27 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and complete all weekly sessions of an assigned caseload of 1-15 individuals/families in the New Life and STAR Transitional Programs. 
• Facilitate assigned weekly group counseling sessions. 
• Complete assigned intake and assessments for individuals and families in the New Life and STAR Transitional programs. 
• Plan for, and co-facilitate youth process groups (approximately 2 hours per week). 
• Provide one-on-one counseling in the youth department as necessary (approximately 2 hours per week). 
• Develop appropriate, measurable Treatment Plans for assigned caseload. 
• Collaborate with Case Manager, Chaplains and associated staff, providing insight and healthy direction for clients’ mental, emotional and spiritual stability. 
• Ensure proper documentation and ethical guidelines set forth by DORA and HIPPA.

Requirements

• Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Counseling preferred or equivalent degree or work experience 
• Pass Jurisprudence Exam within 12 months of hire
• Secure Liability Insurance for Counseling in the State of Colorado within 6 months of hire. 
• Prior experience with leading individual sessions and groups in psycho education.
• Prior experience with populations who have experienced homelessness, addictive behavior, trauma, and legal issues.
