Medical Receptionist duties and responsibilities

Medical Receptionists perform a variety of duties in order to support the medical staff and their patients. They are the main liaisons of a medical facility, interacting with patients and medical staff. They act as mediators in communication. A Medical Receptionist’s duties and responsibilities also include:

· Answering phones and forwarding calls to the appropriate party, or taking down messages for forwarding later

· Collecting patient information and providing it to relevant medical leads

· Tracking availability and preparing patients before their appointments

· Informing medical staff when a patient has arrived or is waiting

· Ensuring that each patient has the proper documentation and sign-in sheets

· Handling correspondence and file transfers

· Checking on medical staff throughout the day

· Medical Insurance verification

· DelCare Health Solutions require a full-time Medical Receptionist, preferably with experience in the Urgent Care and/or Family Practice, to join our progressive, dynamic, technologically driven, expanding, and modern teaching practice.

Hours of work are 40 hours per week
Monday – Saturday (every other)

The successful applicant will need to be flexible in their approach to covering team absences where necessary. Hourly wage is to be discussed at the interview.

Job Summary

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or health care professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way and undertake administrative duties when not following the Receptionist role.

Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors either in person or via the telephone.

Job Responsibilities

To ensure an effective and efficient reception is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice.

Deal with all general inquiries, explain procedures, and make new and follow-up appointments. Using your own judgment and communication skills ensures that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.

Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.

Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages ensuring the accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.

Enter requests for visits onto the computer ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to the Duty Clinician.

Action repeat prescription requests and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours either on the computer or manually.

Prepare lists and notes for all visits and procedures held ensuring completion of all the associated paperwork.

Advise patients of relevant charges for private, non-general medical services. Accept payment and issue receipts for same where required.

Enter patient information on the computer as required.

Using the Computer

Accessing the computer for the purposes of extracting registration details, path results, medication information and referral data.
Finding details of immunizations and health promotions and medical reports if required.
Inputting data as requested if required.
Using Electronic Health Record to book a patient appointment and learning the various tasks involved with computerized appointments.

Administration

To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures
To work in accordance with written protocols
Pulling, filing notes for patient visit and updating as necessary when required.

When required making sure medical records are updated
Fax and photocopy as requested
Filing of prescriptions ready for collection
Knowing the purpose of various forms and where they are kept, e.g. temporary resident, new patient forms, change of address forms

Reception

Receiving patients
Consulting with members of the practice team
Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patients, checking names and addresses
Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary
Dealing with all patients or their relatives, friends or neighbors with their requests for appointment
Make adequate notes to pass on accurate messages
Coping with requests which are made for appointments, visits, collection of prescriptions, letters or messages left or to be left
Process appointment requests for current and future appointments either by telephone or face to face
Deal with visit requests
Dealing with Incoming Calls

Job Types: Full-time, Per diem

Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour
