Due to a one-year service leave for the 2023-2024 school year, Decorah Community School District has an opening for a High School Spanish Teacher (.45 FTE).

We seek an experienced and passionate Spanish Teacher to join our high school faculty. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the Spanish language and culture and be able to communicate that knowledge to high school students effectively. The teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering lesson plans that meet the needs of students with varying proficiency levels in Spanish.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach Spanish language and culture to high school students using various instructional methods, including lectures, group activities, and interactive technology.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet students' academic needs and interests at different proficiency levels in Spanish.
  • Create and maintain a positive, engaging classroom environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and cultural exploration.
  • Assess student progress and provide regular feedback to students and parents on academic performance, language proficiency, and cultural awareness.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to integrate the Spanish language and culture into the broader curriculum and school culture.
  • Participate in school-wide activities and events, including parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and professional development workshops.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, grades, and attendance per school policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and staff to promote student success and achievement, including through interdisciplinary projects and initiatives.
  • Incorporate technology and other innovative teaching methods to engage and motivate students, including those with diverse learning needs and backgrounds.
  • Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment that promotes student learning, growth, and success and upholds the values and mission of the school and district.
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing training to maintain expertise in teaching, including staying up-to-date on new trends and best practices.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, assessments, and curricula that align with the Iowa Teaching Standards and Danielson Domains.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education required
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Spanish preferred
  • Valid, current Iowa teaching license (or willingness to obtain)
  • 5-12 Spanish Endorsement (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in both Spanish and English.
  • Deep understanding of the Spanish language, culture, history, and literature.
  • Familiarity with current teaching methods and technologies, including digital resources and interactive tools.

Passion for teaching and engaging high school students in studying the Spanish language and culture.
