Description

Summary

Under the direction of the General Manager, organizes and manages the day-to-day function of the Maintenance department by delegating and supervising the completion of all preventive maintenance, special projects and daily maintenance needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the maintenance and processing departments including plan, assign, and prioritize work assignments of Maintenance and Processing Technicians.
  • Ensures all company safety practices, policies and procedures are being followed by all employees.
  • Maintain and write standard operating procedures for the maintenance and processing departments.
  • Maintain a fully functional preventative maintenance program. The PM program will include but not be limited to a full list of equipment and building maintenance requirements, work orders with frequency specific to equipment, documentation of all performed maintenance, a parts inventory with repair and maintenance costs associated with all equipment and the ability to use the data to build maintenance department operational budgets.
  • Compute estimates and research costs of materials, labor, and/or outside contractors.
  • Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
  • Supervise personnel and follow up on employee's evaluations, expectations, and results.
  • Coach, counsel and motivate employees; investigate complaints or performance concerns; implement disciplinary action as needed and in consultation with Human Resources.
  • Provide training or arrange for training to keep the maintenance/processing stakeholders at a level required for the facility to operate equipment in an accurate and safe manner.
  • Responsible for regular inspections and overhauls of all mechanical equipment.
  • Responsible to ensure all processing and related equipment are maintained at a level to provide the facility with efficient and safe operating equipment. Attention to best practices and good manufacturing practices will be used to make certain that all equipment is maintained in a food safe manner.
  • Fabrication and welding as needed for plant repairs and upgrades.
  • Operates and maintains boiler. Maintains records for boiler and monitors chemical usage.
  • Operates and maintains ammonia/glycol refrigeration. Maintains records.
  • Implement new process operations and cost reduction programs to improve efficiencies and maintain product integrity.
  • Responsible for communicating and meeting expectations set forth by USDA/FSIS.
  • Work with the Quality department to ensure product safety.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures related to maintenance and safety as a member of the plant management team.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (AA.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Maintain current Boilers License.
  • SQF Certification
  • Experience in food manufacturing or processing very desirable. Knowledge of forklifts and safety programs

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Electrical hard wiring and electronics, hydraulics, PLC control, pneumatics, power transmissions, ammonia refrigeration, high and/or low pressure steam boilers and general mechanical aptitude.
  • Preventative and/or predictive maintenance software and its implementation.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and AMMS.
  • Strong ability to work alone or with little supervision.

Physical Demands

Stand and walk constantly; grip, grasp, push, pull, reach, bend, stoop, lift up to 10 pounds frequently; sit, climb, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and water, and chemicals. Temperature is regulated for operations standards. Cooler temperatures occur in specific areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Proper personal protective equipment will be required during certain working conditions. Employees are required to comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) due to working in a food manufacturing environment (hairnets, clean clothes, etc.).
