Davis Technical College is Hiring a Payroll Specialist Near Kaysville, UT

Retirement benefits are employer funded with 14.2% contribution into TIAA 403(b) retirement plan, or the Utah Retirement Systems pension plan. Plus, the College is exempt from Social Security, so an additional 6.2% employer contribution and another 6.2% employee contribution (12.4% total) can go into another 401k retirement account. Paid leave time starts out between 15-21 vacation days per year, plus 12 days paid sick leave per year, and 15-17 holidays per year. SUMMARY:

Prepares college payroll maintaining strict confidentiality. Performs a variety of payroll, data entry, and routine human resource duties as needed to expedite the delivery and achievement of payroll/HR services. Utilizes a Human Resource Information System (HRIS) for payroll processing and employee data and record keeping. Processes insurance, retirement, and payroll withholdings and other benefit related payments and reconciliations. Provides payroll and timekeeping support to College supervisors and employees.* This position may be eligible for limited remote work subject to Remote Work Policy

  1. Compile, reconcile, prepare, and distribute college payroll; employee benefit deductions, benefit invoices, leave balances and other payroll accounting functions. Review payroll to ensure accuracy.
  2. Input, update, and maintain accurate employee data into Payroll/Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
  3. Enter and update employee information with benefit vendors including retirement, pension, and benefits agencies.
  4. Input new employee data into various documents and systems such as the emergency notification system
  5. Review and record changes to employee pay rates, exemptions, insurance coverage, loan payments, deductions and all other records affecting net wages within HRIS.
  6. Assure all payroll and personnel record keeping is in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. 
  7. Assist in the employee retirement and termination process by calculating and processing final payouts and filing appropriate payroll documentation.
  8. Process payments and employee contributions to benefit providers. Reconcile billings with employee deductions and employer payables. 
  9. Accurately report information required for various government reports required for payroll, benefits, and labor information.
  10. Train and inform college employees of payroll system changes and provide regular training on payroll processes.
  11. Compile statistical reports, statements, and summaries related to pay and benefits accounts, and submit them to appropriate departments
  12. Manage all vacation payout requests annually by inputting request information into HRIS and processing on payroll.
  13. Manage all leave codes in HRIS and ensure that they are being utilized properly.
  14. Provide employment verification information as requested by eligible agencies or organizations. 
  15. Maintain appropriate and strict confidentiality.
  • Requires a high school diploma plus three (3) years of experience processing payroll, data entry, employee benefits, accounting, human resources, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires basic computer and typing skills as well as working knowledge of Human Resource Information Systems, timekeeping, payroll or similar database systems, Microsoft Excel, Outlook.
  • Requires strong customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Requires strong attention to detail, ability to concentrate for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prefer additional years of experience working in timekeeping, payroll, or administrative human resource experience.
  • Prefer payroll experience administering public institution benefits
