Job Description:
Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Community College has been equipping students, alumni, and employees with the knowledge and experience to transform themselves, the community, and the world for over 55 years. Its comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in occupational/technical and college/university transfer programs. Non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry are also offered. This is a part-time staff position reporting to the Director of Programming that works up to 30 hours per week providing oversight and assistance in two Ceramic Studios in BRCC’s Fine Arts Center. Duties and work hours may vary from week to week, determined by semester class load, work flow, and student studio access needs related to class projects and assignment deadlines. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing assistance in personal enrichment program planning, primarily Ceramics offerings, as well as assisting with FAC events/activities.
  • Reviewing and improving established studio protocols to streamline a busy work environment.
  • Working closely with varied constituency groups to include BRCC faculty, staff and students, in addition to an array of diverse community members.
  • Collaborating with credit and Workforce and Continuing Education faculty.
  • Loading and unloading kilns, firing kilns, recycling clay, mixing glazes, and ordering supplies.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating an exceptional professional customer service approach.
  • Ability to maintain a positive atmosphere in studios at all times, working with a diverse population of customers and college students.
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated and directed
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds multiple times throughout the day, to include loading and unloading kilns
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Organization skills
  • Time management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with MS Office and Outlook email and a willingness to learn additional software applicable to the college as needed
  • Experience working with or around ceramics processes, to include clay or glazes
  • Experience working with students or in a higher education environment
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience as a leader and/or providing oversight
