Shipping and Receiving

Job purpose: Verifies quantity, quality, labeling, and addressing of products and items of merchandise for shipment. Packages materials and products by performing the following duties:

Key responsibilities:

  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs and sorts, or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against packing slips, and bin sheets.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed carton, identifying shipping information on cartons.
  • Assembles cartons and/or necessary containers.
  • Sorts, combines, wraps, covers, or ties material before inserting into carton and/or containers.
  • Contacts Freight Forwarders and Carriers to schedule pickups or for specific orders.
  • Initiates and completes forms for domestic and international shipments.
  • Completes shipping invoices/labels for Carriers.
  • Records, collects and distributes forms and paperwork for shipments to necessary departments.
  • Traces package delivery information on request.
  • Works with Carriers, Sales and Customer Service to correct lost or damaged package problems.
  • Operates and oversees maintenance on office copy machines, and clearing paper jams and overseeing use of copiers by other office staff.
  • Maintains supplies for equipment and material in the shipping and finishing departments.
  • Maintain inventory of warehouse supplies.
  • Email and/or fax Shipping Acknowledgements to customers as required.
  • Works with Sales and Customer Service for shipping quotes.
  • Follows all ISO procedures and work instructions pertaining to task they are performing.
  • Operates Great Plains, CRM, Federal Express and UPS systems.
  • Assists in Finishing and Receiving when applicable and participates in cross training.
  • Pulls bins, performs QC check and packages order prior to shipment.
  • Process shipments through FedEx, UPS and mail systems.
  • Stocks the shipping area with shipping supplies including tape, labels, vendor boxes, envelopes, etc.
  • Prepares palletized shipments (stacking and wrapping of skid(s)).

Preferred Requirements and Education:

  • 1-3 years related experience and/or training.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Ability to follow procedures well (process driven)
  • Sensitivity to customer needs and stringent delivery requirements
  • Work under deadline pressures and availability to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers
  • Ability to maintain good attendance
  • Experience of working within ISO or documented quality system
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook (email)
  • Knowledge of Great Plains, CRM Software.
  • Knowledge of different modes of transportation and their rules and regulations

Minimum Requirements and Education:

  • 1-3 months related and/or training
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • General knowledge of warehouse procedures

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
