Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: Full-time 12-month appointment beginning July 1, 2022.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks an individual to provide supervision for students working in the costume shop for seven major theatre and dance productions during the academic year (and possible summer production); coordinating the costumes for Studio productions; securing, ordering, and maintaining materials, supplies, equipment, facilities and costume stock needed for the efficient operation of the costume shop and running of productions. Opportunities to teach and design as production schedule and student needs permit.

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Costume Design, or a related field. Experience in patterning, stitching, millinery in a combination of professional or academic situations; managerial capacities including budgets and record-keeping; evidence of classroom teaching at the college level. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty Costume Designer, other faculty, as well as undergraduate and graduate students. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in the actual training of college students in safe, common practices of a theatrical costume shop; experience in running a professional costume shop; experience teaching stage makeup and basic costume construction; professional tailoring experience; proven capacities to work in a production situation with a wide range of staff skill and experience; knowledge of textiles relating to costume construction; capacities to work under pressure with a targeted deadlines.
For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be "in hand" at the time of appointment.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Theatre and Dance offers a BA in Theatre with options in performance and production/design, the BFA in Musical Theatre, and the MFA in acting, directing or design, and minors in Dance, Stage Combat and Theatre. A Department Chair, fourteen faculty members, a technical director, a costume supervisor, and an office manager serve approximately 60 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students. Three theatres (proscenium, thrust, and flexible) are used for theatre productions. The University has completed the design phases for a new $90 million Center for Performing Arts. The department is NAST accredited and will be undergoing re-accreditation during the 2026 academic year. Annually, 12 major theatrical and dance productions and studio shows are performed, along with outstanding concerts, lectures, presentations, films, dance performances and more. The Gwendolyn Brooks and Casa Latina cultural centers offer programs and activities focusing on Black and Hispanic cultures, while the Women's Center promotes gender equity through education, support and advocacy. WIU's student organization for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and ally (LGBTQ*A) community provides resources, support and programming. These cultural and resource centers promote WIU's goal of enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through educational programming and advocacy.
The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.
