Here at Leica, we engineer and manufacture Digital pathology scanners, which are a high precision and automated electro-mechanical instrument for high resolution scan of pathological samples.

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will lead software design and integration to hardware products through embedded solutions. Working closely with the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Management teams you will be responsible for the creation and integration of new design concepts/architecture into a line of digital slide scanners. You will also be an integral part of the VAVE (Value Added Value Engineering) initiative for cost and design optimization of the existing and new products, as well as the sustainment of our current products. You will be a member of the scanner team for new products and responsible for new design and manufacturability aspects of it plus knowledge transfer to production. You will be expected to contribute to all aspects of the design from inception to verification/validation, production and finally to the end users. This is an outstanding opportunity for a creative person to invent new solutions in an exciting field as we expand our product capabilities.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

Education:

• Bachelor’s / Master’s (preferred) degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or STEM field.

Required skills/ experience:

• Proven Experience with C software development and Experience with embedded software design and development
• Experience with scripting languages such as python or equivalent
• Experience with unit tests tools / techniques
• Experience with Linux based software development tools and build environments including CMake
• Experience with agile software development in a scrum environment

Desired skills/ experience:

• Experience in medical product development environment (FDA, ISO) with exposure to design control regulations or equivalent regulated environment
• Experience with image file formats (JPEG, TIFF, GIF) and with compression techniques (JPEG, LZW)
