D C EVEREST AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT is Hiring a Chef Near Schofield, WI

Position: Chef

Building: Middle School

Terms of Employment: .72 FTE, school year, 8 hours/day, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm

D.C. Everest is looking for a chef to create delicious, nutritious recipes for school menus that foster an environment of engaged learning for students and help lead our scratch food initiative.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Collaborates with Kitchen Coordinator and Nutrition Support Specialist to develop standardized recipes for the district and creates daily breakfast and lunch menus.
  • Prepares menu items from standardized recipes.
  • Delegates tasks to kitchen staff when needed in preparation and packaging of foods.
  • Utilize culinary expertise to create appetizing dishes for students to enjoy.
  • Forecasts quantity of food to prepare based on production record history and place food orders with vendors.
  • Provides information for budget planning and preparation to the Director of School Nutrition.
  • Keeps accurate daily production records.
  • Utilizes commercial kitchen equipment that may include combi ovens, tilt skillets, steam-jacketed kettles, mixers, and steamers in daily recipes.
  • Trains other School Nutrition personnel to use commercial kitchen equipment and execute recipes.
  • Prepares work schedule for kitchen staff by checking menu in advance for workload and food preparation.
  • Stores foods according to health and safety regulations.
  • Operates dishwasher and properly stores trays and silverware.
  • Cleans kitchen and equipment daily.
  • Maintains high standards of production, safety, and sanitation at all times.
  • Maintains an ongoing plan for professional growth by attending meetings, workshops, and seminars for improvement of job competencies.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

WHAT IT TAKES:

  • Culinary Arts degree and/or three years of experience as a chef with experience in a school setting preferred.
  • Experience or training in volume food preparation preferred.
  • ServSafeâ Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern methods of quantity food preparation.
  • Knowledge of use and care of institutional kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Able to make arithmetic computations and keep accurate records.
  • Works effectively with school personnel, subordinates, students, parents, and community groups.
  • Possesses stamina to stand and/or walk on hard flooring for long periods.
  • Ability to withstand a wide range of temperatures.
  • Ability to work with chemical and cleaning agents.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy food items or objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Possesses manual dexterity necessary to shred, chop, assemble, and mix foods.

WHAT YOU’LL RECEIVE:

  • $19.21 per hour
  • Paid time off including 11 paid time off days and 5 holidays (prorated from start date through June 2, 2023).
