Curtin Maritime is Hiring an Operations Specialist Near Long Beach, CA

RESPONSIBILITIES/GOALS:

  • Assist Operations with Vessel-related activities, crew management, and vessel management system (HELM)
  • Assist in the planning and execution of operational activities
  • Aid the operations team in administrative tasks, vessel compliance, and vessel preparation and maintenance.
  • Oversee vessel satellite hardware and data plans; install and troubleshoot as necessary
  • Provide support for HELM Connect Maintenance Management Software to office and vessel personnel
  • Provision, install, configure, operate and maintain vessel system hardware and software and related infrastructure
  • Provide training to new hires and refreshers to existing users in Helm Connect
  • Monitor Helm Connect Tasks for overdue or urgent items; report those tasks to supervisor and assist in management of tasks.

SKILLS, APTITUDES, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Maritime industry experience desired, interest in maritime activities preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC and MMC
  • Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record required
  • Ability to travel for brief periods of time.

Mental Aptitudes Required:

  • Self-motivated team player with a strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to get along with office staff and vessel crew members.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
  • Confidence to initiate correspondence with crew members and staff.
  • Must always follow all Company and United States Coast guard rules and regulations.
  • Must comply with all work rules, including those that pertain to safety and health.

Physical Aptitudes Required:

  • Must meet “fit for duty” requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)
  • The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces.
  • Ability to maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel.
  • Ability to stand and walk on nearly a constant basis; ability to work long hours each day.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work when exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels, and potentially hazardous equipment.

TASKS AND DUTIES:

  • Verify HELM information on existing vessels
  • Create templates as required to support maintenance activities
  • Initiate upload of information to HELM for new vessels
  • Manage new and existing user accounts
  • Coordinate installation and maintenance of HELM software and hardware on vessels
  • Provide distance support for vessels through any means available at any time necessary
  • Maintain and administer HELM, including daily monitoring, troubleshooting and performance analysis ensuring high availability of HELM software
  • Perform as Subject Matter Expert for HELM and satellite antennas, providing technical expertise
  • Duties as assigned by Port Captains and VP of Operations
