Position Summary

We are currently on the search for a new Registered Dental Assistant for our orthodontic department who has the passion, skills, and drive for helping patients achieve beautiful smiles and better health, while creating “wow” experiences at every visit! As an orthodontic assistant, you will work with patients who have braces, appliances and/or head gear. It is important that we prepare patients for examination, keeping them as relaxed and comfortable as possible. You will assist the orthodontist and place an emphasis on patient comfort and satisfaction. You will have a working knowledge of the instruments used in orthodontic care and familiarity with standard orthodontic procedures, techniques and methods.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to work in a pediatric, child friendly environment
  • Reviews all charts prior to bringing patients back for treatment
  • Checks oral hygiene and provides oral hygiene instructions
  • Has a basic understanding of different orthodontic procedures
  • Properly sterilizes instruments
  • Has a basic knowledge of how to properly take patient photos (facial and intra-oral photos) and x-rays (Pano and Ceph)
  • Assists doctor with cementation of bands and bracket placement
  • Removes and places wires, ties, and power chains/thread
  • Follows OSHA, Infection Control, and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens.
  • Must maintain Dental Assisting License in good standing and complete the CE Credits required by state

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current State of TN RDA License
  • Current CPR Healthcare Provider Certification
  • Polishing and Radiology Certification
  • Ortho experience preferred

Physical Demands

  • Standing, walking, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching and sitting
  • May be required to stay in a position for long periods of time
  • Occasional lifting; moving up to 15 pounds
  • Manual dexterity and manipulation
