Cumberland Goodwill EMS is Hiring an EMT (Part-Time) Near Carlisle, PA

Job Summary

The mission and purpose of this position is to provide both initial and continuing education training to EMS students and employees of Cumberland Goodwill EMS. 

Summary of essential job functions

Responds to emergency and non-emergency incidents to provide efficient, effective, immediate, and appropriate care to critically ill and sick patients and transports them to appropriate medical facilities. 

Obtain information from the dispatch center and safely operates unit to the scene of the emergency in the quickest and safest route depending on traffic and weather conditions. 

Provides initial and ongoing scene size up to ensure the safety of the crew, patient, and bystanders. 

Makes contact with the patient and performs a detailed physical assessment including patient history. Upon evaluation makes an initial care plan and executes that plan based on all applicable protocols and medical command orders.

Reassures patient and bystanders by operating in an efficient and confident manner. 

Complies with all protocols and regulations involving handling the deceased. 

Complies with all federal, state, and local regulations involving privacy. 

Provides detailed written and verbal reports to higher level providers and the receiving healthcare facility. 

Restocks ambulance and ensures that it is ready to respond at all times. 

Maintains a working knowledge of all applicable protocols. 

Completes accurate and timely reports from any patient contact in accordance with all company policies and procedures. 

Completes any and all supporting documentation as required by the organization. 

Actively participates in company activities that promotes an efficient, effective, and ethical EMS organization

Minimum requirements

High School Diploma or General Education Diploma

Pennsylvania Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician certification

Current Healthcare Provider CPR

Emergency Vehicle Operators Course 

Emergency Medical Vehicle Operator Certification

Hazardous Materials Awareness

OSHA approved Infection Control

Pennsylvania Drivers License

Pennsylvania Drivers License Check

Criminal Background & Child Abuse Check

Continuing Education as mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health

Physical Abilities required

Must be able to occasionally lift 40 pounds from floor to waist

Must be able to perform a maximum lift of 40 pounds from floor to 45 inches

Must be able to carry 40 pounds for at least 50 feet

Must be able to push 63 pounds at chest height

Must be able to pull 124 pounds at chest height

Must be able to step up and step down at least a 21 inch step

The staff member is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms to use and operate basic office equipment, tools and medical instruments. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Knowledge:

Medical: Must have knowledge of the information and techniques needed to perform pre-hospital diagnosis of human injuries and diseases. This includes properly identifying signs, symptoms, and treatment options

Psychology: Must have knowledge of human behavior and performance, and a basic understanding of how people would react in stressful and traumatic situations. 

Customer and Personal Service: Must have knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs recognition, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

English Language: Must have knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of compositions, and grammar. 

Anatomy & Physiology: Must have knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology and be able to identify main components of the human body and understand how the body functions. 

Shifts:

Typically Full-Time EMT-B’s work 12 hour shifts starting at 0700 ending at 1900 or starting at 1900 through 0700. They typically work 36 hours one week and 48 hours the next. 

EMT-B’s can also work 40 hours a week Monday through Friday. 

Part-Time EMT-B’s work a variety of schedules as coordinated by the scheduling supervisor.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme, cold and heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. EMS incidents will occasionally involve volatile and stressful situations.
