Civil Engineer

Job Description

Location: Dallas, Texas

CSRS is actively seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Team. This position will work out of the Dallas office. This is a technical role that will be largely be focused on design of projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas

Experience:

  • Five (5) years, or more, of progressive experience in the practice of civil engineering
  • Proven experience in working on a variety of public and/or private projects in one or more of the following areas: land development, water resources, transportation.
  • Experience or exposure to with Construction oversight and contract administration for public and/or private projects,
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal permitting requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares or directs the team in the preparation and modification of calculations, construction cost estimates, designs, reports, permit applications, construction plans, and specifications for projects.
  • Leads a team of engineering interns and designers to design and permit land development and public infrastructure projects.
  • Communicates effectively with other internal and external disciplines, including survey, geotechnical, environmental, traffic, planning, contracts, etc.
  • Manages quality control for all aspects of project design on assigned projects.
  • Communicates with regulatory agencies to understand and comply with permitting requirements.
  • Addresses and resolves issues related to projects in a responsible and timely manner and proactively seeks input from others in the organization.
  • Checks and confirms the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to prepare and manage project plans, budgets, and schedules from project kick-off through close-out.
  • Ability to wade through complex information, identify what matters, make sound decisions, solve problems, and communicate clearly and collaboratively in a high-stakes environment.
  • Strong organizational, coordination, management, and leadership skills.
  • Strong time management and interpersonal skills, with sharp attention to detail, accuracy, and quality, even on time-sensitive projects.
  • Ability to become proficient in CSRS engineering and/or project management practices, processes, and CSRS-specific digital platforms.
  • Ability to travel regularly to proposed and active project sites.
  • Valid drivers license with acceptable driving history is required.

Technical Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of one or many of the following: land planning, site design, site grading, earthwork balance, drainage, sanitary collection and water distribution, drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, roadway, and utility design concepts, permitting, specifications, and cost estimating.
  • Strong experience in the preparation of construction plans and supporting calculations.
  • Construction and constructability expertise related to production of design plans and resolution of field issues.
  • Experience in training and mentoring staff on engineering fundamentals and design concepts.

Work Location and Travel

  • Work in the Dallas office 3 days a week and 2 days remote
  • Role requires monthly travel to CSRSs headquarters in Baton Rouge, LA for a duration of 1-2 days.
