Crisis Text Line is Hiring a Remote Controller

The Controller will manage cross-functional relationships with other managers, take initiative for broad company projects and direct other managers and leaders. You will manage a team that directly supports, informs, and empowers other teams across the organization.

Role:

As the controller you will work closely with the CFO to ensure that the organization’s financials are accurate; that reporting is timely; and that the finance team excels in being a strategic partner to teams and individuals across the organization. You will improve internal controls, policies, and procedures. You will be the heartbeat of the finance team - an accounting authority, an effective manager, and a source of positivity and progress. You will be a manager that supports, trains, and empowers your team. You will also be a customer-service minded individual that understands the value of the finance team’s partnership in support of other teams’ and the overall organization’s goals.

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements as well as the requirements of private contributions, loans, and government contracts

  • Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures

    • Maintain and implements a system of accounting policies, procedures, and controls over accounting transactions to:

      • Minimize risk

      • Streamline policies, procedures and workflow 

      • Uphold federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and potential future legislation

  • In conjunction with the accounting team, close all accounts on a monthly basis in support of departmental budget to actual reporting

  • Work with external auditors and lead the preparation of the annual audit and 990 filings

  • Manage and support the accounting team with thoughtful leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity

  • Support the People & Operations team to ensure the smooth and accurate processing of payroll, benefits, and employee development offerings

  • Partner with the business development team to reconcile monthly accounts receivable reconciliation and reporting; ensure the correctness of data flow from the donor management system (Salesforce) into the accounting system (NetSuite)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field or equivalent job experience

  • Professional accounting certification, including CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA highly preferred

  • 10 years proven accounting experience 

    • 5 years experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager

    • Experience as a public/non-profit auditor preferred

    • 3 years managing small teams 

    • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting

  • Highly knowledgeable in finance and regulatory standards (GAAP)

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis

  • Proven payroll experience, with a focus on streamlining accounting processes

  • Proficiency in excel, NetSuite, gSuite 

  • Experience with Salesforce and Zenefits preferred
