Courier Newsroom is presently seeking a Finance Analyst. This position is fully-remote and will primarily focus on adding financial operations capacity to Courier Newsroom and its affiliates.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the Finance Analyst will be in charge of day-to-day activity associated with Courier’s financial operations. A successful Finance Analyst will be mission-driven and want to apply their finance or modeling experience to scale the finance function at a mission-driven organization. This person will be deeply involved in helping to build budget and finance metrics, and will be a key contributor to expand on the finance operational workflow to scale the organization. As a key collaborator on the finance team, this person will be expected to work cross-functionally across other departments to help position the broader organization for success.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee bookkeeping, Accounts Payable (A/P), and Accounts Receivable (A/R) for the organization in partnership with retained accounting team, under the guidance of the Senior Finance Manager;
  • Partner with Senior Finance Manager to oversee and prepare financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis with support from retained accounting team;
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual closing of books in collaboration with retained accounting team, under the guidance of Senior Finance Manager;
  • Support Senior Finance Manager in collaborating with retained accounting firm in preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns;
  • Execute monthly departmental budget reviews in collaboration with department managers and other key stakeholders;
  • Engage in quarterly and annual Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) under the guidance of the Senior Finance Manager including:
    • Production of Quarterly & Annual financial forecasts;
    • Execution of Budget Reconciliation processes;
    • Creation of ad hoc reports to reflect financial performance of company and individual departments;
  • Collaborate with Senior Finance Manager to deliver weekly Finance presentations within and between departments, including presentations to senior executives;
  • Collaborate with retained CPA firm to compile 6-month and annual audited financial statements;
  • Regularly update budget-to-actuals via bookkeeping and accounting software (i.e., Quickbooks, Bill.com) with weekly expenses, ensuring attention to detail with account reconciliations and coding;
  • Support Senior Finance Manager with internal expense allocations processes;
  • Support Finance team and retained accounting firm with bank and credit card reconciliations;
  • Sustain vendor relationships for robust freelancer and consulting partnerships, including issuance of contracts and timely payment of invoices;
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within Company’s financial operations and generate solutions to improve daily operations;
  • Master key organizational and property-level business metrics and KPIs (i.e. growth, engagement, revenue goals, etc.) to measure health of the business and align performance toward KPI output.

  • 2-3 years of collective experience in bookkeeping, financial modeling, or business operations;
