Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. (CBM), an accounting and business advisory firm that serves clients throughout Washington, DC, Baltimore, and the Mid-Atlantic region, is currently seeking a dedicated accountant with at least two years of accounting experience to help our finance department. The candidate must have strong organizational, communication, and computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite is required).

Remote work / flexible schedule is available.

Essential Functions

• Maintain general accounting systems to provide records of assets, liabilities, and other financial transactions
• Conduct general ledger operations, including processing, monitoring, and tracking general ledger transactions as well as preparing and posting journal entries
• Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts, bank statements, payroll accounts, etc.
• Perform accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
• Work with various levels of personnel and management, both inside and outside the accounting department, to ensure the appropriate analysis of issues and conclusion of accounting matters
• Support monitoring and validation efforts for internal controls and adherence to US GAAP
• Provide hands-on support for various projects

Other Functions

• Supports the Director of Finance with month-end close and annual operating budget process as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

• At least two years of relevant accounting experience including general ledger and reconciliations within accounting software program
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or another related program
• Proficiency in the use of computers and accounting software programs (QuickBooks Online, bill.com, CCH Axcess, Practice Management, etc.) OR be a quick learner of new software
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office: Excel, Outlook, and Word
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be a team player and willing to work in a dynamic environment
