Hazmat Specialist

Position Summary

The Hazmat Specialist will be responsible for the safe handling of dangerous goods and ensuring compliance with all local, state, federal regulatory

agencies, as well as company policies and procedures. This position will be responsible for performing a blend of complex technical responsibilities across hazardous material programs; this includes tracking, maintaining chemical inventory, preparing hazardous material reports, and ensuring compliance with hazardous material storage across all facilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinates material review activities to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local regulations, and company policies and procedures established for hazardous materials.
  • Collects, organizes, manipulates, and analyzes data around hazardous environmental materials metrics in importing and exporting
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws around returned material management, hazardous/non-hazardous waste documentation, and proper labeling and placarding.
  • In close partnership with the local distribution center leadership, oversees aged inventory review and management process, first triage point for hazardous materials spills, and acts as a subject matter expert to team members and customers.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Environmental Science; Environmental Engineering; Occupational Safety; Health & Industrial Engineering; or related discipline; Master’s degree is a plus;
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or willingness to obtain
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting hazardous material programs
  • Ability to classify hazardous materials in relation to CFC definitions
  • Previous experience preparing HMBPs, air permitting, chemical inventory reporting, hazardous waste, SPCC and spill contingency planning
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local and international environment, health, and safety regulations.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
