Summary/Objective

The Process Engineer will support the compression molding area with tooling and fixtures, manufacturing processes, work instructions, and production efficiencies in the production of sheet molding compound.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support and encourage lean manufacturing initiatives, quality systems, root cause analysis, fixture and gauge development, automation, process optimization, and continual process improvement to ensure a smooth, efficient, and cost effective manufacturing process.
  • Train and mentor manufacturing technicians

There are no direct reports of this position.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and manufacturing floor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and does require daily shop-floor presence and interaction with other departments and employees.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. In addition, the employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. In addition, this position regularly requires long hours and weekend work.

Travel

Travel is limited and primary local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected from time to time that is by the customer or Engineering Manager

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • 4 years experience in automotive supplier environment QS/ISO systems
  • 2 years of experience in reinforced fiberglass industry (open and closed molding practices), and compression molding
  • 1 year of experience with FMEA, Control Plans, PPAP and APQP
  • Track record of leading and implementing continuous improvement, scrap reduction, and cost-out initiatives in a manufacturing facility
  • Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Professional communication skills and ability to effectively work and build strong working relationships with customers after work or during weekend needs
  • Well organized and strong planning abilities with strong organizational, administrative skills; strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Team player; maintain positive, supportive, and appreciative attitude
  • Good time-management skills

Preferred Education, Qualifications, and Experience

  • 5 years experience in an engineering manufacturing role
  • Automotive / manufacturing experience
