Job Title: Metering Superintendent

Reports To: Distribution Operations Manager

Pay Range: $100,984 - $134,576

Classification: NBU

Position Summary:

Responsible to the Distribution Operations Manager for the administration, development, and supervision of the construction and maintenance of metering infrastructure. Responsible for the direct supervision of all Senior Meter Technicians, Meter Technician classifications, Meterman classifications, Meter Tester classifications, Apprentice Meter Tester classifications, and Meter Investigator classifications. To include planning and managing the staff, equipment, meter installation, maintenance activities, and day-to-day metering activities while maintaining the highest quality control.

Duties are semi-routine, involving the use of CORE standards and procedures, industry best practices, and national standards.

Receives general direction from the Distribution Operations Manager and works from CORE procedures and general objectives; however, plans and arranges own work. Requires discretion in the handling of confidential and personal matters. Work includes a combination of office and field activities.

Furnishes direct supervision, development, and performance reviews of the Cooperative's Metering department, including accountability for results in terms of safety, costs, methods, and personnel.

Experience/Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate is required.
  • Five or more years of utility electrical metering systems experience.
  • Three years of experience supervising and/or leading preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles of electricity and metering theory.
  • Knowledge of automatic meter reading (AMR), net metering, and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), including deployment, reporting, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and City, County, and State codes.
  • Knowledge of high and low-voltage safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of meter installation, meter testing, programming, and wiring, including multiplier metering (primary and secondary) applications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software.
  • Accurate record-keeping skills along with quality control skills.

Job Duties:

  • Keeps the Distribution Operations Manager informed of metering work schedules and assigns project completion target dates for metering crews.
  • Compiles, records, and submits periodic reports as directed by the Distribution Operations Manager.
  • Reviews, approves, or returns for correction all timesheets, material use requests, return tickets, expenses, etc., submitted by employees under their supervision. After approval, forwards the forms to the appropriate department in a timely manner.
  • Assists the Distribution Operations Manager with the preparation of the department's annual budget and work plans. Adheres to the final Distribution Operations Department budget as adopted by CORE's Board of Directors.
  • Provides recommendations to the Distribution Operations Manager concerning labor relations policy and collective bargaining strategy.
  • Oversees the collection and reporting of meter data.
  • Reviews and stays current on industry standards for metering best practices, testing, metering technology, and training.
  • Plans, schedules, organizes, and follows up on work to be performed by Metering personnel.
  • Ensures metering work and Service Orders are completed in a responsible and timely manner with high quality.
  • Ensure all materials, equipment, and supplies are maintained and available.
  • Supervises the Meter Verify Program and ensures verification testing and related corrective work is completed per CORE's Meter Verify Program.
  • Ensures that Metering personnel are properly trained and maintain knowledge base.
  • Coordinates the Metering personnel and projects with District Line Superintendents.
  • Travels to worksites to supervise the work in the field to ensure the quantity and quality of work, as well as CORE's standards and policies, are maintained.
  • Oversees meter investigations.
  • Prepares and submits bargaining unit employee evaluations as scheduled.
  • Attempts to resolve first-step grievances.
  • Works closely with other departments to resolve problems that may arise.
  • Provides technical support to Operations, Billing Services, Member Services, Engineering, and Technology Services.
  • Participates in various committees as required.
  • Works closely with the Safety Department to ensure supervised employees develop and use safe work habits. Follows the rules established within CORE's Safety Manual.
  • Reports all accidents to the Safety Department as required.
  • Works with members to resolve problems concerning access to CORE-owned equipment and members' concerns.
  • Assists in reviewing and updating Metering policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Recommend specifications of metering equipment.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and various industry-related software required to perform job duties.
  • Performs other duties as needed and/or as directed.

Physical Requirements

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
