Job Summary

The City of Fort Collins has a great opportunity for a Traffic Signal Technician in our Traffic Department! This is a Technician ll, Transportation Operations position and is a full-time, salaried position with the City with an anticipated hiring range of $56,000-$69,000 annually and opportunities for overtime! This position will rotate on call, emergency response, and be provided a City vehicle while on call. Our Traffic Signal Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of our network of traffic signals, and vital to keep traffic flowing safely within our City. This opportunity is ideal for a candidate with three years of experience in electronics, traffic signal construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. We prefer a candidate with IMSA Level 1 certification. We are looking for someone with a passion for safety who enjoys a fast-paced environment to bring their maintenance and problem-solving skills to the City!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Perform routine maintenance; troubleshoot, program, configure and repair low and high voltage (5 VDC to 240 VAC) systems including traffic signals, conflict monitors and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices such as Bluetooth readers, audible Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS), video detection and monitoring cameras.
  • Perform routine, preventative maintenance of traffic signal equipment; follow preventative maintenance plans, inspect and maintain signal equipment.
  • Document work completed on traffic signals and traffic control devices, make daily work reports and keep detailed records; maintain as-built prints, records and reports, compile daily activity reports including materials used and work accomplished; maintain truck inventory.
  • Operate equipment such as aerial device, backhoe, loader, trencher, concrete saw, utility locator and other specialized equipment; use fall protection; assist with crane and rigging/material handling; perform daily equipment inspections and minor repairs to equipment; work from ladders or bucket trucks to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures.
  • Set up work zone traffic control.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
  • Perform field locates of underground facilities.
  • Construct traffic signals; hang traffic signal heads, signs, detection devices and other communication equipment.
  • Respond to emergency trouble calls, failures and emergencies involving traffic signal equipment; available for twenty-four hour on-call duty.
  • Maintain current IMSA certification.
