Coral Rehabilitation Nursing McGregor is Hiring a Director of Nursing (DON) Near Mc Gregor, TX

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • You must have emotional maturity
  • Ensuring quality nursing care to all residents. Supports and practices the philosophy, nursing objectives and standards of the Department of Nursing.
  • Ensures the provision of in-service/staff development programs that contribute to meeting nursing objectives and standards and comply with all state and federal regulations.
  • Ensures that nursing department is adequately staffed to provide quality care to residents.
  • Provides clinical expertise to facilitate and support the nursing process in Resident's interventions.
  • Assists in ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for residents, employees and visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Facility Administrator.
  • Is responsible for participation in the training program on the facility immunization program and in the annual vaccination campaign.

EXPOSURE RISK

The Director of Nursing is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids when actively providing nursing care to residents. Performance of administrative duties results in minimal exposure risk.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Exercises administrative and function supervision over nursing personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of two years Long Term Care experience preferred.
  • Three to five years' progressive management experience.
  • Registered Nurse
  • Bachelors Degree Preferred

MINIMUM PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Performance in the following areas is acceptable when:

Assists in ensuring quality care to all residents. Supports and practices the philosophy, nursing objectives and standards of the Department of Nursing.

  • Participates in the implementation of resident care planning process to comply with resident's needs and regulatory agency compliance.
  • Includes the philosophy, objectives and standards of the nursing department in the orientation and education of nursing service personnel.
  • Makes frequent rounds on nursing units, on all shifts to assess performance of nursing staff and monitor the quality of care provided to residents.
  • Assists in ensuring nursing department compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
  • Participates in internal audits of nursing practice and in the plan of correction when deficits are identified.
  • Participates in ensuring all facets of the nursing budget are within established parameters.
  • Participates in the quality assessment and improvement process and activities.

Ensures that the nursing department is adequately staffed to provide quality care to residents.

  • Establishes and facilitates effective employee/employer relationships.
  • Recruits and selects nursing service personnel based on facility needs.
  • Ensures that all forms and processes related to hiring are completed on new employees.
  • Responsible for staffing the nursing department at a level congruent with resident’s needs, budgeted positions and employee requests.
  • Schedules nursing manpower to support individual and group activities for residents out of the facility.
  • Participates in orientation for nursing facility personnel.
  • Assists with the evaluation of performance of all levels of nursing service personnel.

Ensures the provision of in service/staff development programs that contribute to meeting nursing objectives and stands, and comply with all state and federal regulations.

  • Ensures that all nursing assistants complete or have completed the certification training.
  • Ensures that education/training/in-service programs comply with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ensures that staff development programs address the needs of residents and nursing staff.
  • Evaluates the process of staff development programs to determine success of program and further needs.

Provides clinical expertise to facilitate and support the nursing process in Resident Intervention.

  • Makes nursing rounds in a manner that identifies specific resident's problems and monitors plan of action implemented by nursing.
  • Assesses technical skills of nursing personnel by observation of various nursing procedures.
  • Assesses nursing judgment made in specific situations to determine staff competence and to identify staff knowledge and performance deficits.
  • Acts as clinical expert or facilitator in specific resident’s situations.
  • Identifies clinical problem areas for Nursing and assists in development of plan of correction.
  • Acts as clinical expert in facilitating the resident care planning process.
  • Assists in the development of a daily resident care assignment that meets resident/facility needs.

Ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for residents, employees and visitors.

  • Participates in ensuring a safe environment for residents, staff and family.
  • Investigates all nursing department employee accidents in accordance with procedures outlined in the facility's safety standards.
  • Monitors and reviews resident’s incidents to identify possible legal issues and to identify patterns that may require preventive intervention.
  • Implements infection control policies and procedures as outlined in company program. Ensures that nursing staff is educated and utilize infection control practices that protect staff, residents and families.
  • Monitors the employee health program to ensure that employees are physically able to work, that on-the-job injuries are documented, investigated and treated, and that required tuberculosis monitoring is accomplished, documented and filed.

Understands the expectations of Long Term Care and related delegated authority.

  • Assumes full responsibility for the Department of Nursing when functioning in this role

Other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

  • Serves as member of facility committees.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and revision of facility policies, standards and procedures.
  • Handles inquiries from prospective residents according to facility policy.
  • Seeks to ensure the resolution of complaints regarding the Nursing department or the facility from residents, families, or other responsible parties, medical staff volunteers and outside agencies affiliated with the facility.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works inside the facility throughout the Nursing Service area, including the medication rooms, nurses' stations and the resident’s rooms.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, reaches, walks, and moves intermittently during the working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is subject to a moderate noise level due to phones, mechanical alarms and occasional construction work.
  • Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors.
  • Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel and other department supervisors.
  • Works beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  • Is subject to hazards in the work area including, bums from equipment, odors, exposure to sharp instruments, falls, chemical cleaners, etc., throughout the working hours.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases or conditions.
  • Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for the resident's needs.
  • May be required to wear a face mask, gown or gloves.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetic's that will enable the senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met (e.g.: accurately read measurements on resident related equipment such as thermometers, monitors, gauges).
  • Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
  • Must be in a good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to relate and work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist with the evacuation of residents.
