POSITION OVERVIEW
The Production Assistant assists production management with distillery operations by performing spirit production and packaging activities. The Production Assistant is responsible for completing all of the day-to-day activities necessary to manufacture and package high quality spirits. The position works with our Production Supervisor and our Distiller in a work environment that spans all aspects of production (milling, mashing, fermenting, & distilling) and packaging (bottling, labeling, packaging, and shipping). This position will also assist in the cleaning and maintenance of production/packaging equipment and facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Safely operate distillation, bottling, canning equipment in adherence to a “Safety Always” culture
- Assist with milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, barreling, packaging, shipping, and warehousing
- Load, stack, wrap and move pallets throughout the production and warehouse areas
- Accurately maintain and record operational data (materials, inventory, production and shipping volumes, inventory counts, etc.)
- Perform and/or assist with all necessary quality control checks throughout operations
- Maintain a clean and stable work environment through CIP (Clean in Place) procedures and solid general housekeeping practices in collaboration with Distillery staff.
- Setup and tear-down piping assemblies (hard and soft).
- Lift, drag, carry, and manipulate hoses, parts, pumps, buckets, reservoirs and tanks used in operations
- Ensure that facility and equipment are clean and are maintained by performing necessary maintenance and cleaning collaboratively with other distillery staff.
- Operate a forklift, pallet jack, and other production equipment
- Perform other assignments and projects as required
- Assist at marketing and promotional events
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma/GED or higher education
- Basic computer skills (Excel knowledge is a plus)
- Prior manufacturing experience preferred (alcohol industry is a plus)
- Distillation experience or a strong interest
- Previous experience in a production environment, with production and packaging of spirits a plus
- Experience with tank CIP and force carbonation technique a plus
- HiLo certification or the ability to obtain one
- Schedule flexibility along with potential off-shift or weekend availability.
- Must be capable of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and completing repetitive motions. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time (approximately 6 hours or more incrementally per day). Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
