Copper Mountain College is Hiring a Health Sciences Programs Coordinator, Full-Time Faculty Near Joshua Tree, CA

Position Description

Under the direction of the Dean of Instruction, the Coordinator of Health Sciences Programs is responsible for providing leadership, planning, direction, coordination and evaluation of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program, Vocational Nursing, Nurse Assistant, and Home Health Aide Programs. Leadership will include developing the Programs while ensuring compliance with the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Board of Vocational Nursing/Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT), and the California Department of Public Health (CADPH). Oversee and coordinate full-time and adjunct Program faculty. The Coordinator will oversee each Program's budget, supervise the instructional activities on campus and clinical facilities for the respective Programs, and participate in District committees. The Coordinator will administer the Programs by coordinating, developing, updating and revising Programs as appropriate, and appoint Assistant Director(s) of the Registered Nursing Program and/or Vocational Nursing Program as required by the respective the Boards.

This is a 205 day / year, full-time, faculty position.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties, roles and responsibilities are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title.

  • Provide leadership and coordination in the related Health Sciences Programs including, but not limited to, planning, organization, direction and evaluation of the activities, services and operations.
  • Develop didactic and clinical rotation schedules and determine staffing priorities for the Programs.
  • Provide leadership for Program improvement and development; work directly with faculty in the planning, development and revision of curriculum; set priorities for resource needs; and participate in strategic and long-range instructional planning.
  • Act as the liaison between the college and related Health Sciences Programs and local schools, colleges, healthcare facilities, professional organizations and community leaders; oversee the development and maintenance of affiliation agreements with clinical partners and service agencies for student clinical placements.
  • Prepare and submit appropriate documentation and reports required by the respective Boards/Agencies (including self-study and accreditation/re-accreditation), the District and other agencies.
  • Support faculty in their continuing education by facilitating attendance at professional conferences, seminars or workshops to ensure an effective learning and working environment.
  • Plan and facilitate faculty meetings and annual Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Review student applications to appropriate programs; oversee the preparation of letters of acceptance/denial and ensure student files comply with all applicable third party regulatory requirements; forward completed and required program completion documents of students to the appropriate licensing agency.
  • Participate in the resolution of student issues, complaints and grievances.
  • Participate in articulation activities.
  • Consult with administration regarding personnel needs, assist with preparation of position descriptions, participate in the hiring process, and recommend candidates for approval following the College hiring process.
  • Completion and delivery of faculty load sheets/rotations/FTE –Contracts.
  • Participate in the hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of classified staff.
  • Develop, implement and maintain documentation for grant funding and utilization of purchased equipment and services.
  • Attend directors and/or deans of nursing programs meetings for the area and State of California.
  • Attend annual BRN and BVNPT Directors meetings.
  • Participate in student success through respecting students' rights, monitoring student progress and prescribing interventions; and keeping Programs current with District policy and State/Federal mandates.
  • Participate in shared governance through committee work at the Program, department, college and community level; attend District committees and Academic Affairs Council meetings; prepare and submit necessary forms in accordance with District procedure. .
  • Make recommendations on technology modifications and uses of technology to the benefit of the learning environment and student success.
  • May teach or substitute one or more lectures or clinical courses as approved by respective boards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience
CCR §1420(h) "Director" means the registered nurse administrator or faculty member who meets the qualifications of CCR §1425(a) and has the authority and responsibility to administer the program. The director coordinates and directs all activities in developing, implementing, and managing a nursing program, including its fiscal planning.

CCR §1425(a) The director of the program shall meet the following minimum qualifications:
(1) A master's or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education or administration;
(2) One (1) years' experience as an administrator with validated performance of administrative responsibilities consistent with CCR §1420(h);
(3) Two (2) years' experience teaching in pre- or post-licensure registered nursing programs; and
(4) One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience direct patient care as a registered nurse; or
(5) Equivalent experience and/or education, as determined by the board.

Additional Desired Characteristics and Requirements

  • Knowledge of California Board of Registered Nursing regulations and application requirements for the Registered Nursing Program.
  • Knowledge of: BVNPT, and NATP (CADPH) Boards and/Agency regulations.
  • Possess communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational and leadership skills, skills to forecast and plan nursing academic programs, and an ability to work with a diverse student, staff and community population.
  • Sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently with little direction or as a team member; and meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, develop, and implement nursing academic programs and work with a diverse population of students and staff.
  • Must be able to attend day, night and weekend meetings or events.
  • Requires driving in the regular course of work via personal or commercial transportation.

Licenses and Other Requirements

  • Active and unrestricted California Registered Nursing license
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Approval as Director from the BVNPT and CADPH.
