Coperion is Hiring a Mechanical Designer Near Wytheville, VA

Coperion is looking for a Mechanical Designer to join our team in Wytheville, VA. As a Mechanical Designer you will design and develop new designs from concept, taking into consideration manufacturability and effective cost. Must be able to support standard product and special customer project work. Responsible for producing manufacturing and documentation information for release into Coperion engineering system. Typical assigned projects start at order hand over from sales and continue through shipment of the Extruder equipment to customer plant site.

What you’ll do:

  • Create new designs and develop existing products
  • Perform cost analysis for new or existing designs
  • Create/revise drawings from mark ups, layouts, or verbal instructions
  • Select raw material & perform engineering calculations
  • Ensure mechanical fit of all components in each assembly
  • Create and maintain Bill of Materials
  • Ensure manufacturability of designed parts
  • Create/maintain and release data/drawings
  • Prepare project related reports
  • Self-check completed assignments and cross check co-workers completed assignments
  • Respond to ECOs (Engineering Change Orders) or equivalent for product corrections and improvements
  • Other duties may be assigned

Basic Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
  • Trained in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Experience in Mechanical Design

Great to Haves:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • General knowledge of ISO 9001 standards
  • Detailed knowledge of chapters design control, document control and non-conforming product
  • Knowledge of trigonometry, math/algebra (i.e., areas of plane, volume of solids), and mechanics (calculation of various moments, center of gravity, etc.)
  • Knowledge of metal and non-ferrous materials and their properties
  • Knowledge of QAD, and SAP ERP software a plus
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electronic tools used in assembly/disassembly and test of the equipment
