Coos Curry Electric is Hiring a Fleet Mechanic Near Port Orford, OR

Primary Purpose

To perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all vehicles and equipment within Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative’s fleet. Ensure vehicles and equipment are kept in readiness for safe operation, while minimizing operating costs and maximizing vehicle/equipment readiness.

Essential Job Functions (Reason position exists is to perform these functions)

  1. Perform all aspects of repairs on engines, drivetrains, brakes, electrical and routine maintenance on vehicles.
  2. Perform annual DOT inspections on trucks.
  3. Perform repairs on hydraulic systems and aerial devices within appropriate level of training, competence and understanding.
  4. Maintain vehicle maintenance repair records on the system directed by management.
  5. Operate all types of equipment.
  6. Maintain shop area keeping it clean, well-organized, and in compliance with all applicable safety standards.
  7. Maintain the inventory of vehicle parts and supplies.
  8. Coordinate annual generator load testing and perform periodic checks on generators. Perform repairs as needed.
  9. Purchase and maintain all shop chemicals. Make sure that all shop chemicals are listed in the MSDS Online program for Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative.
  10. Attend training through manufacturers and training conferences to stay current on maintenance and repair procedures including use of diagnostic equipment.
  11. Schedule appointments for repairs that are to be done by a third party.
  12. Transport or arrange transportation of vehicles/equipment to third party repair appointments.
  13. Represent the Cooperative with professionalism and integrity when in contact with members, public, consultants and vendors. Follow Cooperative Policies and Procedures.
  14. Notify management of needs for major repairs or purchases.
  15. Assist management in development and maintenance of a fleet long-term plan.
  16. Prep new vehicles and equipment for release to service in a timely manner.
  17. Design and fabricate parts out of aluminum or steel as needed.
  18. Perform basic welding to make repairs on vehicles or equipment.
  19. Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  20. Install radios in vehicles and equipment.
  21. Assist line crew as needed.

Work Environment

This position is exposed to external weather conditions including rain, sleet, snow, etc., as well as varying degrees of hot and cold temperatures. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This position requires standing as much as two-thirds of the workday while walking or sitting as little as one-third of the day. Also required are repetitive movements of hands, arms and shoulders to finger, handle or feel various items. In addition to being exposed to vibration by equipment up to two-thirds of the workday, the position places you near moving mechanical parts up to two-thirds of your workday. Will be required to walk on uneven terrain and drive company vehicles daily.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical work hours are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative operates on a four/ten work schedule. Overtime work will be required during extended storm/outage restorations as needed.

Travel

Travel throughout the CCEC service territory. Occasional travel to training seminars and/or conferences.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Graduation from vocational/technical school. Progressive experience may be considered in lieu of or equivalent to education.
  3. Three years of relevant experience required.
  4. First Aid and CPR Card.
  5. Understanding of 29 CFR 1910.269 Subpart R OSHA regulations.
  6. Ability to read vehicle schematics and wiring diagrams.
  7. Color vision for wire identification.
  8. Valid Oregon Commercial driver’s license Class A or ability to acquire within 6 months from hire date and insurability.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Strong MS Office Suite skills.
  2. Reliable transportation for getting to work.
  3. Must be free from illegal drugs; may be subject to random and /or suspicion testing.
