Position Title: Accountant

Location: Idaho Falls, ID

Position Summary:

The Accountant position performs basic accounting functions by providing support to the Finance department with specific responsibilities for all aspects of accounting from Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cash Management, Sales Tax Reporting, Monthly Account Reconciliations, to other special projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assists the Controller and/or Account Manager with various duties
• Prepare and review journal entries and make appropriate adjustments to the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers to ensure compliance with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
• Provides assistance in the implementation and management of fiscal processes and procedures, applying basic concepts, methods, and techniques.
• Prepare and review routine account reconciliations for balance sheet and certain expense accounts.
• Maintain spreadsheets to analyze account activity and complete fluctuation analysis
• Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.
• Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
• Assists in performing general ledger accounting functions as needed and/or information on internal process that is required for audit.
• Compiles a wide variety of financial information related to work assignments (e.g. proof resolutions, gasoline vendor invoices, etc.) for the purpose of providing required documentation and/or processing information.
• Conducts month-end journal entries, including preparation of audit schedules
• Analyzes, reconciles, balances, and maintains accounting records and corrects errors by posting adjusting journal entries; performs calculations which may include interest and depreciation.
• Provides timely and accurate generation of regular reports as well as special reports requested, such as monthly, quarterly and annual reports and variance analysis
• Assist with quarterly and year-end closings
• Assist with ensuring the company maintains Sox compliance and provide documents needed for compliance.
• May assist in audits and prepare paperwork required for internal and/or external auditors.
• Maintain fundamental understanding of all general accounting systems and functions, and continually evaluate processes and look for opportunities to improve.
• Maintains financial information, files and records to ensure the availability of documentation and compliance with established polices and regulatory guidelines.
• Protect the company’s value by keeping information confidential. Ensure that confidentiality of data collected and stored is maintained
• Employee must demonstrate safe work and risk management practices. Communicate and enforce all safety and security issues. Report and process all employee and/or customer incidents or unsafe acts in accordance with Parkland policy and procedure.
• Employee is expected to set priorities and meet deadlines. Employee is responsible for planning and carrying out assignments, resolving conflicts that arise, informing and coordinating with others as expected. Employee is accountable for ensuring the technical accuracy of their work and maintaining good working relations, both internal and external to Parkland. Self-direction and motivation are also expected.
• Must meet performance expectations and complete all duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business-related degree
• 1-3 years of experience in general ledger accounting experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
• Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, IFRS, research and analysis practices.
• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
• Thorough knowledge of Accounting Policies and Procedures
• Able to work in a fast-paced business climate with the ability to capture and process information quickly
• Detail oriented and organized
• Strong communication and analytical skills
• Solid problem solving and decision-making skills
• Proficiency in use of computers for business applications
