Conexon is Hiring a NOC Engineer Near Kansas, MO

Description

The Conexon Network Operations Center is looking for an experienced NOC Engineer to support our growing national data network providing Internet and voice services to residential and business customers. You will be part of a network operations team that is responsible for maintaining high availability data networks that meet business objectives and SLAs (Service Level Agreement) (Service Level Agreement) (Service Level Agreement).

This position is in a fast-growing company, and you will enjoy developing your skills to help close the digital divide while working in a positive and encouraging office environment with passionate teammates in a dynamic atmosphere.

This is an on-site position in the North Kansas City area. The Conexon NOC provides 24x7x365 support for all services and clients. The right candidate should be flexible around shift coverage, and flexible in participating in an on-call rotation. Position may have variable hours including evenings and overnights. Actual shift may vary and is dependent of current open positions and needs at time of hire

Requirements

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

Network Release Management

  • Execute test and turn-up processes & tasks required for any activations of all new Network Circuits, and Devices designed and implemented by Network Engineering.
  • Contribute as needed, as directed, to coordinate with Network Engineering on the implementation and designs in the Operations Support System.
  • Execute Configuration Management tasks as needed by, or assigned by, the Network Engineering team.
  • Perform any assigned Network Deployment tasks such as transport & circuit design engineering

Network Capacity Management

  • Contribute to team efforts in development, Implementation, and tracking of metrics and reporting in effort of proactively identifying capacity needs related to Data Bandwidth utilization, as well as IP Utilization of all DHCP scopes
  • Plan, design, coordinate, and implement capacity growth as needed using appropriate Change Management protocols

Event Management

  • Monitor network devices, telecommunications links, and remote facilities to identify service impairments and ensure reliable network operations.
  • Track external events, such as weather warnings, and proactively engage in disaster prevention, or recovery, protocols when necessary.

Incident Management

  • Perform remote troubleshooting of network equipment utilizing tools such as command line interfaces, web-based status monitoring systems, and device GUI interfaces
  • Run diagnostic tests on the network communication equipment
  • Partner & coordinate cross functionally across a complex internal matrixed team environment to troubleshoot network impairments, or faulty equipment, and restore services.
  • Open and manage support tickets with vendors including telecommunications and network hardware providers
  • Provide status updates to NOC, and company, leadership during and after network impacting incidents

Change Management

  • Manage the scheduling of, and monitor, all network change activity across the organization
  • Communicate with all stakeholders, and leadership, internally and externally, to ensure transparency of all network change activity.
  • Provide monitoring and remote support to cross functional teams performing changes in the network.
  • Maintain and create technical support documentation, MOP (method of procedure) and SOP (standard operating procedures) for network systems and applications

Problem Management

  • Provide and use analytics to identify trending events, incidents, customer issues, as well as failed, or repeat network changes. Trigger and initiate cross functional projects to proactively prevent recurring, or new, incidents.
  • Implement, update, maintain, all network related “Known Issue” records
  • Initiate, and engage in the tracking of all network device related RMA (return merchandise authorization) processes to ensure faulty devices are returned, and replaced, efficiently. In addition, coordinate and communicate with hardware vendors to ensure the end-to-end process of faulty equipment analysis is brought to conclusion to prevent further disruption across deployed devices within the network.

Other tasks may be assigned by leadership related to, but not limited to, network deployment projects, knowledge base management, or asset management.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with Calix Access Edge Systems is a MUST
  • Experience with Juniper hardware a plus
  • Hands-on technical troubleshooting capabilities
  • Broad knowledge of network and computing devices including Microsoft OS and Applications, Linux, and web-based applications
  • Working knowledge/experience with the 3 Tiers of Network Design, as well as the 7 layers of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model, are a plus
  • Working knowledge of FTTx architectures (Fiber to the home, business, cell, etc.)
  • Working knowledge/experience of Passive Optical Networks (PON) technologies
  • Demonstrated experience with network device management of routers and switches
  • Working knowledge of ITIL practices, or other related ITSM frameworks such as Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF), Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies (COBIT), and Business Process Framework (eTOM).
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Windows Office 365, Windows OS, Teams
  • Business Analytics knowledge/experience is a plus (SQL, etc.)
  • Technical writing knowledge/experience is a plus
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to remain calm and communicate clearly during incident management situations
  • Service driven self-starter with proven record of support qualifications
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, other related degrees, or equivalent related certifications. 5 to 10 years proven industry-related experience may be considered in lieu of degree(s) &/or certification(s).
  • A minimum of at least 2 to 5 years' experience, in a technical role, in the Communications Service Provider, or the Telecommunication industries.
  • Certification with Juniper and/or Calix network hardware are a plus
  • CompTIA Network or similar certification a plus
  • ITIL v3, or v4 Foundation certifications are a plus
  • PMP, or similar, certification a plus
