Overview

The Supervisor is responsible for managing staff performance and workflow. The Supervisor also maintains inventory and performs sterile processing functions.

Responsibilities

Assists in maintaining count sheets for all instrument trays, communicating changes to the Assistant Director and/or Director as needed; Monitors Instrument sharpening schedules and sends items out for repair; Responsible for recording department physical parameters, temperature and humidity daily or assignment thereof; Monitors the testing of cleaning equipment, washers, medivator; Monitors equipment inspections and contacts Biomed to update inspections as needed; Reports malfunction(s) to Assistant Director or Director; Troubleshoots and corrects minor equipment problems; Manages resources efficiently and works with team members to reduce costs and improve quality; Maintains all sterilizer and HLD documentation: Sterrad, ETO, Steam, IUSS, Paracetic acid.--------------------------------------------------Decontaminates, reassembles and sterilizes instrumentation according to policy and procedure and universal precautions; Assembles instruments in accordance to sterilization requirements; Inspects instruments for any defective/broken or missing components and replaces as needed; Disinfects case carts and returns to staging area; Assembles wraps and sterilizes instrument sets and trays following inventory list maintaining accuracy and quality control; Demonstrates knowledge of how to operate instrument and cart washers as well as sonic cleaners, sterilizers and High Level Disinfection equipment; Understands mechanical functions and safety features of equipment; Monitors cycles for proper functions and tests parameters of time and temperature; reporting findings appropriately; Performs chemical, biological and mechanical tests as required and understands functions of each and appropriately documents results. --------------------------------------------------Leading instrument workflow 85% of the time, as follows: Responsible for the designation of assignments within the Sterile Processing Department; Monitor daily flow and immediately corrects inconsistencies; Monitors priority turnovers for surgical items/trays ensuring that they complete the entire recovery process in a timely manner; Reviews Operating Room schedule for consignment and loaner instrumentation; Monitors OR cases and responds to special requests for needed instruments/sets and sterile supplies proactively; Helps locate misplaced instruments/sets; Communicates changes or delays to the appropriate OR and Sterile Processing leadership; Accurately stages OR case carts and completes for the next day surgical cases; Provides instruments needs list to Sterile Processing Department; Holds staff accountable for daily workflow and assignments--------------------------------------------------Responsible for coaching, counseling and initiating corrective actions under the guidance of the Assistant Director and/ or Director, to include: Responsible for overseeing training/competency and education of staff --------------------------------------------------

Qualifications

EDUCATION:High School Diploma or equivalent, RequiredEXPERIENCE:Required:Five years' experience in Sterile Processing or as a CST/ST required. Three years recent experience as a supervisor or served in a management capacity.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIREDRequired:Current CSPDT, CRCST or CST.PREFERRED
