CBCC is a privately owned, comprehensive cancer center that is conveniently located approximately 2 hours north of Los Angeles, 4.5 hours from Las Vegas, and about a 2-hour drive to the amazing California coastline and beautiful beaches. Our location in Bakersfield provides the convenience of experiencing California living without the high cost of living.

Summary:

An Accounting Clerk (AC) performs in an environment that demands flexibility in dealing with employees, physicians, insurers, and members of the general public with many different cultural backgrounds and needs. The job demands that the AC be able to perform all of the routine duties of an AC working in a standard finance office. Satisfactory performance at this level requires the full knowledge, ability, and willingness to perform duties at the highest professional levels at all times. The AC must continuously exercise a strong commitment to the organizational goals of Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Receives assignments from the Controller or designee and follows up using established policy and procedures
  • Compiles and sorts documents such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions
  • Verifies the accuracy of invoices
  • Verifies and posts details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and totals accounts, using calculator or computer
  • Computes and records charges, refunds, cost of lost or damaged goods, travel charges, rentals, and similar items
  • May type vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other records using computer
  • Reconcile bank statements and/or credit cards statements
  • Maintains accurate records for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • May assist the Department Lead on bi-weekly payroll functions
  • Maintains accuracy of documents being filed
  • Routinely retrieves and replaces files in the filing system while maintaining proper storage
  • Informs Controller of both routine and non-routine issues involving departmental operations
  • Maintains confidentiality in all matters related to the organization
  • Maintains personal composure and integrity under stressful conditions
  • Enters information into company data systems using standard accounting and finance techniques as to meet legal mandates
  • Performs related duties as required by the Controller
  • Ensures the accuracy of information entered into data systems
  • Prepares necessary paperwork required for next business day

Requirements

  • Must be able to work a full-time schedule
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain valid car insurance
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment screening (background check, drug tests, and references)
  • Must comply with organizational behavioral standards
  • Must attend basic orientations prior to independently working

Knowledge base:

  • Policies and procedures of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Skills in:

  • Information gathering and data input
  • Accuracy and organization of record keeping
  • Remaining calm with all parties under stressful conditions

Abilities:

  • Communicate on a professional level in both written and verbal formats
  • Perform multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Perform efficiently in a high pressure setting
  • Deal effectively and professionally with various personalities on a routine basis
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with physicians/management and coworkers
  • Follow written and verbal directions while retaining the ability to tactfully question directions that seem unclear, unsafe, or illegal
  • Meet deadlines and remain on timelines
  • Work without supervision when necessary

Education & Experience

Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that are required by Federal, State, and Local guidelines. The minimum requirements for experience and education are:

  • Education equivalent to graduation from High School
  • Three to five years of financial clerical experience
  • Ability to provide two current acceptable and verifiable professional references

Physical Standards

Positions in this class are situated in a standard office environment where there is little or no exposure to variations in the weather or other similar elements. Physical agility must be such that the AC is able to sit, walk, crouch, lift, and file for extended periods of time while utilizing their hands, wrists, legs, and arms. This position utilizes office machines (e.g., computers, adding machines, printers, copiers, scanners, etc.) and requires sufficient manual dexterity to operate them all. The AC should be able to lift up to 20 pounds repeatedly and 45 pounds intermittently
