CommunityAmerica Credit Union is Hiring an Accounting Manager Near Lenexa, KS

Summary

This individual will be responsible for leading and monitoring the daily operations of the Accounting Department, researching and resolving issues impacting the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers. This individual will identify and evaluate processes, procedures, and applications utilized by the department to maximize efficiency and accuracy of the financial records.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the supervision of daily loan and investment accounting operations to include the efficient and accurate recording of loan originations and borrower activity, loan securitizations in the secondary market, gains/losses on loan sales, interest accruals, mortgage servicing rights, deferred servicing release premiums, investment purchases, sales and maturities, monthly mark to market of the investment portfolio, and monthly amortization of deferred origination costs associated with mortgage originations. The Manager will assist staff with the research and resolution of issues impacting loan and investment accounting records as well as reviewing monthly account reconciliations and financial reports prepared by staff for internal and external users.

The Accounting Manager is also responsible for the generation and distribution of internal and external reporting to include CommunityAmerica financial statements as well as consolidated financial statements, components of the monthly ALCO materials, quarterly CALL report filings and annual audited financial statements. The manager is the primary contact for the coordination of the annual external and regulatory audit.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage, direct and lead the accounting operations staff (including, but not limited to, payroll, accounts payable, balance sheet reconciliation, , Check 21, fixed asset activity, sales and use tax, etc.)
  • Manage loan accounting, investment accounting and financial reporting activities
  • Accountable for general ledger interface matrices for loan origination and servicing system, accounts payable subledger and credit card subledger
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the accounting records (general ledger and subsidiary ledgers) as well as the timely close of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting periods
  • Ensure the completion of timely and appropriately supported monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Oversee processing of vendor invoices and expense reimbursement requests; manage third party relationship with A/P solution provider
  • Serve as a liaison between Finance and Accounting, primarily in the review and documentation of monthly actual to actual variances and resolution of posting errorLead the month-end general ledger close process for CommunityAmerica
  • Lead the month-end general ledger close process for CommunityAmerica
  • Lead annual 1099 process
  • Serve as liaison for preparation of annual tax returns to including but not limited to 990, Int-4 and Sales and Use Tax
  • Directs the quarterly call report (5300) preparation and serves as first line review of this regulatory filing
  • Hiring, evaluating, promoting, compensating, and disciplining accounting operations staff
  • Provides an environment for staff that enables them to carry out the strategic goals and activities as defined by the department as well as the credit union overall
  • Identifying key risk control points and partners to ensure visibility and the development and completion of action plans to address any gaps
  • Maintain and keep current all records of accounting procedures
  • Ensure that accounting procedures are consistent with the overall credit union’s strategic board policy
  • Continually review methodologies and processes to improve and enhance results within the accounting department. Lead projects to implement improvement plans.
  • Partner with the finance team to ensure best practices are utilized to gain efficiencies and improve productivity through the integration of Axiom into daily operational tasks. Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in all other operational areas of the credit union
  • Work with outside auditors and regulators with regard to accounting records, departmental procedures and internal controls
  • Promote honest and open communication throughout the credit union
  • Demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with the credit union’s values, philosophies, and leadership characteristics
  • Work with other credit union departments to ensure that processes and workflows are providing the best possible service to credit union members
  • May occasionally be required to travel to other credit union facilities for visits or training purposes
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Must be able to be bonded

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or equivalent experience from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Five years of related accounting experience demonstrating increasing responsibility
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, and tasks of others simultaneously
  • Willingness to take ownership of processes and procedures to suggest enhancements or improvements that would benefit the organization as a whole
