Description

Title: Maintenance Worker

Department: General Agency

Reports To: Vice President, Facilities Operations

Location: Various (offices are all located in the 10301 and 10302 zip codes of Staten Island)

Position Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Rate: $37,000 - $40,000, commensurate with qualifications; excellent benefits package

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI serves the most vulnerable individuals, families, and communities with critical services and programs. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – the poor and working poor, low income people with chronic illnesses, persons with criminal justice involvement, substance users, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Community Health Action of Staten Island’s maintenance workers are essential to the operations of all of our locations by keeping our spaces clean, well-stocked, and functioning smoothly so our clients feel comfortable and welcome in our spaces at all times and our direct service and management staff can perform their functions. The Maintenance Worker coordinates all activities related to the maintenance of CHASI facilities, which includes 5 buildings in the St. George and Port Richmond neighborhoods of Staten Island. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Office maintenance which includes cleaning and general upkeep, including kitchens.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, replenishes supplies.
  • Empties garbage cans and relines cans with liners. Spot cleans cans as necessary for individual offices.
  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops floor per schedule or as deemed necessary.
  • Opens and closes facilities as needed.
  • Tracks and maintains an inventory of essential supplies for each building.
  • Coordinates with other members of the facilities team to keep all sites cleaned and maintained.
  • Occasionally performs minor repair tasks including, but not limited to, paint small areas, perform wall repair, change out fixtures, snake toilets, replace washers, change doorknobs.
  • Tracks operation of fire safety equipment (emergency lights/fire extinguishers/smoke detectors).
  • Transports agency supplies from location to location and perform drop off or pick up of supplies as needed. 
  • Seasonal maintenance of outdoor of building exteriors and properties (grass/weeds/snow removal).
  • Maintains service logs for building upkeep such as HVAC filter changes.
  • Maintains and tracks tools and equipment.
  • Maintain equipment in good operational working order (example: clogged vacuum).
  • Provides monthly vehicle maintenance for all vehicles (taking to a car wash, vacuuming or washing the interior). 
  • Perform all functions in alignment with Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma, equivalency, or vocational education in related field. 
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated work experience with housing/building maintenance. 
  • Must have a clean driver’s license with minimum 3 years driving.
  • Must be able to drive a 15’ truck.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact professionally with diverse groups of people.
