Community In Crisis, Inc. is Hiring a Community Outreach Specialist Near Bernardsville, NJ

Job Title: Community Outreach Specialist

Location: Bernardsville, New Jersey

Status: Full time: 40 hours per week, with some evening or weekend hours

The Community Outreach Specialist supports the work of the Community in Crisis (CiC) youth substance use prevention team in the design and implementation of programs and messaging to discourage the use of substances, including alcohol, marijuana, nicotine, and opioids. The Specialist will work to maximize our effectiveness in disseminating a youth substance use prevention message through outreach to the community and will have primary responsibility for oversight of our social media strategy. These initiatives are key components of CiC’s strategic plan and federal grants.

Community in Crisis is a coalition of community stakeholders dedicated to reducing the incidence and consequences of the misuse of substances through education, prevention and holistic support in an environment free of stigma.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with development of an overall data-informed prevention messaging and social media strategy to most effectively reach the target audiences of youth, young adults and their parents. This includes brainstorming and feedback sessions with the target populations and a review of prevailing community behaviors and attitudes.
  • Help implement assigned prevention programs and projects. This includes but is not limited to: teen and middle school education programs, community services projects, parent and community education program, information tables at community events, other community outreach activities
  • Help plan a schedule of social media and digital marketing prevention messaging and ad spending/boosts across a wide range of platforms. Ensure coordination across all channels, including traditional media platforms, our website and e-newsletter.
  • Monitor and moderate the prevention posts on CiC’s social media accounts. Offer recommendations for relevant interaction with users. Respond to inquiries and comments in a timely and responsible manner
  • Analyze key metrics for engagement and generate regular reports on the effectiveness of our prevention campaign and recommend modifications if warranted
  • Coordinate closely with the CiC Marketing Manager and the prevention team to: integrate prevention messaging into the agency-wide communication plan, ensure linkage to the CiC website to maximize the utility of our Google ads grant, plan, and manage paid boosts of social media posts to maximize and broaden engagement
  • Help create engaging content (pictures, videos, reels, etc.) with images and words that reflect our mission and resonate with the target audience. Maintain an awareness of social climate and emerging trends on social media platforms
  • Oversee recruitment and engagement with program volunteers
  • Assist with budgeting, grant compliance, and program evaluation efforts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with youth-focused social media and digital marketing channels, including best practices regarding formats, techniques, and scheduling. This includes Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
  • Ability to engage with diverse populations and to understand and emulate the voice/tone of our coalition and our youth members
  • Spanish language ability a plus
  • Preferred experience but not required: Graphic design applications such as Canva and social media analytics and reports
  • Comfortable with Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Effective writing and presentation skills
  • A quick learner and energetic team player with strong problem-solving skills and ability to multitask.
  • Familiarity with the Somerset Hills Community and schools a plus
  • Work primarily in-person. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends to cover occasional events.
