Common Threads is Hiring a Remote HR Business Partner

HR Business Partner (part-time, nonexempt)

Position Overview:

Common Threads (CT) is seeking an experienced and motivated human resources professional for its part-time HR Business Partner position. The part-time HR Business Partner will provide excellent HR service, partnering with leadership for the recruitment, training, performance management, and benefits administration for Common Threads workforce across 11 U.S. markets. The part-time HR Business Partner organizes, designs, makes suggestions, and implements processes that have an impact across the organization. They are a thought leader on organizational and human capital issues. The part-time HR Business Partner develops and puts into action strategies that drive the attainment of organizational goals and objectives.

This position will be a remote position however, the candidate must reside in one of the following markets: Chicago, IL; Austin, TX; Miami, FL; Los Angeles, CA; New York City, NY; or Pittsburgh, PA. Candidates should be comfortable working with and reporting to colleagues remotely. 

This is a part-time, nonexempt position, 20-25 hours per week, that will report directly to the CEO. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop organizational learning processes, including employee training, performance evaluations, and professional development activities, ensuring that these processes are aligned with the strategic direction of the organization, support its mission and values, and strengthen its culture and identity.

  • Ensure workplace equity and inclusion by managing HR processes and materials such as recruitment and selection, promotions, learning and development, policies and practices, position descriptions, offer letters, employee handbook, etc. 

  • Manage Common Threads’ employee recruitment process, including advertising positions, conducting candidate reviews, phone screening, interviewing, and training and guiding hiring managers on recruiting A-Players. 

  • Establish a tool and a process for internal pulse checks to capture the voice of the Common Threads’ team from the bottom up.

  • Work with leadership to create performance metrics for individual employees, providing coaching and defining pathways for continued professional development.

  • Conduct landscape analysis of company policies to highlight areas where Common Threads is exceeding and identify possible areas for improvement.

  • Serve as an employee advocate, fielding questions on payroll, benefits and policies and functioning as the liaison between Common Threads’ professional employment organization, staff, and the leadership team.

  • Work with leadership to identify ways to strengthen the employee experience, including workplace culture, benefits, and compensation.

  • Establish and promote employee training and professional development programs to maximize employee productivity, professionalism, and collegiality.

  • Handle onboarding and offboarding of staff members including new hire procedures, introductions to key staff, training on organizational policies and procedures, and conducting exit interviews. 

  • Provide support to the CEO and other leadership team members in employee communications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Minimum five years of experience in human resources including performance management, recruitment, employee relations, and benefits administration preferably in a nonprofit setting.

  • Strong background in managing organizational health, providing effective problem-solving to strengthen employee satisfaction, retention, morale, and performance. 

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking, as well as interpersonal, communication, and written skills.

  • Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated, creative, and able to perform duties with minimal direction and supervision.

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and to deal discreetly with confidential information. 

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google Drive.

  • Experience with other software including Salesforce, Slack, and Asana is a plus.

  • Experience working with culturally diverse individuals.

  • Experience and/or high comfort level working virtually with internal and external team members.

Additional information:  

  • This position is eligible for benefits such as, 16 hours of paid sick time, professional development opportunities, and access to the organization's employer assistance program. 

  • Common Threads employees are subject to a background check prior to employment.

  • This position maintains a traditional work week schedule (generally between the hours of 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday), but may require some weekend and evening work for special projects and events.
