Description

Position Summary: Provides personal grooming services to residents including bed-bound or room-bound residents.

Essential Functions

  • Provides a range of haircare services for men and women including shampooing, cutting, coloring, setting, curling, styling, permanents, relaxers and blow-drying.
  • Provides hair removal from eyebrows and other facial areas, as needed.
  • Trims hair from ears, beards and moustaches.
  • Provides a variety of manicure services.
  • Provides pedicure services.
  • Accepts and records appointments for services for residents.
  • May assist residents to and from grooming appointments.
  • Reports all equipment repair issues to the Environmental Services Director.
  • Reports all product and inventory needs to the Activities Director.
  • Documents all resident appointments in residents’ record, as directed.
  • Advises supervisor of any resident grooming issues or concerns.
  • Protects the confidential nature of resident information and adheres to resident rights.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.
  • Complies with federal, state, local and company health, safety, and sanitation laws, regulations and standards.
  • Complies with all regulations and standards set by the Missouri Board of Cosmetology.
  • Complies with the company’s employee safety prevention and accident reporting program.
  • Participates in conducting fire drills and other safety drills.
  • Cooperates and problem-solves with other departments and staff, residents, vendors, and others to support overall team and corporate goals.
  • Wears professional attire on a daily basis.
  • Timely response and follow through on all communications.
  • Maintains knowledge of current cosmetology practices.
  • Attends all meetings and training as required.
  • Attends all in-services as directed.
  • Works extra hours when necessary and performs duties of other positions as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Is currently licensed as a cosmetologist.
  • At least one year’s experience in providing haircare, manicures and pedicures.
  • Dedicated interest in serving a senior population.
  • Able and willing to take direction from management.
  • Empathic communication skills including focused listening and providing feedback.
  • Reads, writes, speaks, and understands the English language.
  • Self-directed organizational skills that enhance the ability to manage numerous priorities.
  • History of ethical and professional conduct.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods
  • Patience and acceptance of constant change in own work environment.
  • Cooperates and problem-solves with co-workers and residents.
  • History of ethical conduct.
  • Basic computer skills.

Preferred Education or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. They include:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to finger, feel, handle controls, talk, walk, hear, reach out and up with hands and arms, stoop and kneel.
  • May stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Requires physical contact with residents.
  • Must be able to easily lift, carry, and otherwise move at least 50 pounds.

  • The work environment is a professional healthcare environment. Employee could be exposed to:
  • Noise levels range from moderate to loud.
  • Contagious or infectious diseases.
  • Dermatitis from frequent hand-washing.
  • Needle stick injury.
  • Bio-hazardous waste.
  • Chemicals used for cleaning and sanitizing; fumes and odors.
  • While performing administrative duties, the work environment includes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
