Description of Work Unit
This work unit exists to provide a wide variety of trades services to the Colorado State University campus communities. These services include, but are not limited to installing and maintaining building components, utility digs, special event set up and coverage, installing and maintaining outdoor furnishings, equipment operation, concrete, asphalt, snow removal, road maintenance and other specialized trade services.
Position Summary
This position functions as a section manager and supervises, directs and coordinates various trades’ positions performing: maintenance and construction functions.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate in the work experience section of the application materials:
  • Four years of experience overseeing pavement (sidewalks, driveways, streets, parking lots) maintenance programs, operations, and equipment (jackhammers, dump trucks with plow and sander, forklift, high ranger etc.) two of which must have been at the level of unit supervisor or equivalent (this experience must include performance management of subordinate employees, goal setting/corrective action, verification of work product, etc.)

The highly desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and experience directly related and critical to this position:
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and adhering to preventative maintenance plans related to asphalt, concrete, streets, roadways, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in a variety of trade areas including skilled structural trades and large equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to develop and grow staff and organizational unit.
  • Additional licensure endorsements, specifically N.
  • Experience maintaining and tracking organizational budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, maintaining, and enforcing safety manuals and procedures.
  • Ability to provide accurate estimates (time, labor, and cost) for services provided.
  • Ability to plan ahead and foresee potential issues when scheduling jobs that impact others space and time.
  • Demonstrated delegation and coordination experience.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Extensive knowledge of heavy equipment operations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and execute blueprints.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing tasks and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of utility site maintenance and safety.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities/needs.

Functions as section manager by developing, implementing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs for asphalt, concrete, streets and roadways, and bleachers and backstops; coordinates work activities for the unit by scheduling with other trades, contractors and University departments to accomplish work product to meet deadlines, provide quality work product, etc.; provides estimates to customers regarding requests for services; researches and locates contractors to complete activities where manpower does not exist on staff; monitors section budget to control costs, monitor revenue work and overtime; coordinates and oversees all snow removal and sanding procedures for all streets and parking lots.

Canvas Stadium/Event Support Coordinator
Functions as the Canvas Stadium/Moby Arena event support coordinator for game day events and other activities. Coordinates work unit for game day/ event preparation, support, and clean-up at Canvas Stadium. In addition, coordinates with skilled trades, grounds and custodial crews that are
necessary to prepare, operate and cleanup the stadium for football games. The position performs similar duties for the sports and public events at the Moby Arena including set up and tear down for these events. In both roles, the position is responsible for game/event building components such as field goals, bollards, backstops, tables, chairs, benches, stage materials, Moby bleachers, etc. This position prepares for and coordinates with Athletics staff, trades, grounds, and custodial crews in the occurrence of adverse weather conditions at these venues such as icing, snow accumulations, etc. Coordinates with work unit, various trades staff and athletics assessments
and repairs needed to chairs, seats, backstops, bleachers, and benches in Moby arena. The Stadium encompasses the site, field, seating stands, concessions. loge boxes, etc.
