Overview

Colonna's Shipyard is looking to obtain experienced Training Specialist within our Production Department.

This is a full-time position with competitive pay, based on experience, and immediate work within our headquarters in Norfolk, VA.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with managers to determine training needs of production trades.
• Collaborate with internal business partners to create industry-specific course content;
• Develop training plans to help develop trades through progressive skill levels. Assist Foreman with tracking and schedule
• Set up and schedule training sessions for all organized training for the shipyard. Training should include trades, supervisors, and Project oversight teams.
• Design effective training programs for Supervisors, to include regular compliance training, soft skill training, and skill training
• Conduct seminars, workshops, individual training sessions etc.
• Prepare educational material such as module summaries, videos etc.
• Support and mentor new employees, to include Management Trainees, Apprentices, and Interns
• Develop and Manage training budgets
• Conduct evaluations to identify areas of improvement across the organization, and then develop training for these areas.

•  Monitor employee performance and response to training
• Must have regular, reliable attendance

• Job may require you to work hours outside of normal work week to ensure coverage and timely completion of deadlines.

• Practice and confirm that all employees, subcontractors and visitors are in compliance with Safe Operations requirements to include the use of PPE
•  Set a personal example by wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) per company guidelines at all times with no exceptions and correcting/documenting others who are not in compliance
• Ensure that all Company Safe Operations initiatives and procedures are executed to include the safe planning of work, safety briefings, near-miss documentation and discussions, housekeeping practices.
• Promote Safe Operations culture participation at the deck plate level.
• Engage employees to be vigilant and vocal when it comes to safety issues, concerns and suggestions. 
• Work independently to complete responsibilities
• Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates

Qualifications

• Proven experience as corporate trainer
• Understanding of effective teaching methodologies and tools
• Willingness to keep abreast of new techniques in corporate teaching
• Proficient in MS Office (esp. Powerpoint); e-learning software is an asset
• Phenomenal communication, presentation, and public speaking skills
• Organizational and time management abilities
• Critical thinking and decision making
• Relevant Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree or Ship Repairs experience
• Must be organized, a good oral and written communicator
