Collins is seeking a CAD Technician to be an essential part of our Western Division team and work under direction of engineers and managers. Demonstrates understanding of the civil and/or structural engineering field. Uses CAD equipment and software to prepare layout drawings from data and specifications submitted by designers or engineers. Uses judgment in making adaptations and modifications to drawings.

Works under direction of engineers and managers.

Position Description

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from Engineers.
  • Prepares plan sheets from data and specifications submitted by engineers.
  • Uses CAD techniques to perform applicable detailing work.
  • Performs basic engineering and design tasks.
  • Adds engineering data and applies engineering conventions to plan sets and alters drawings to conform to engineering changes.
  • Compiles accurate unit take-offs for project cost estimates.
  • Is responsible for the visual quality of drawings and plan sets.
  • Fully understands and implements corporate CAD and drafting standards.
  • Manages project directories and files for conformance with company standards.
  • Drafts detailed drawings of structures.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • An Associate’s Degree in Computer Aided Design or Civil Engineering, completion of a technical school technician program, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum eight years of drafting experience.
  • Excellent skills in the use of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation. Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
