To accomplish the Clerk's Office core mission of serving the citizens of Collier County, the Finance Division is responsible for providing clear, concise, and transparent information regarding the revenue and spending of the County. The Division establishes and maintains internal controls to provide reasonable assurance regarding the safeguarding of county assets against loss from unauthorized use or disposition, while vetting the reliability of financial records. Reliable financial records are essential in the preparation of financial statements and to maintain accountability of county assets. The critical work of safeguarding tax-payers funds is performed by a group of highly skilled finance and accounting professionals. The Financial Accountant will perform professional accounting functions, which includes preparing a variety of financial reports, including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report along with supporting work papers. This position will participate in the resolution of complex accounting issues and is responsible reviewing Governmental Accounting Standards Board Pronouncements and making recommendations for implementing changes. This position will perform essential work for the Finance Division such as: Prepare, maintain, and review financial records and reports, including detailed reports on activities and project status, budget reports, monthly financial reports, capital expenditure reports, and other reports as required.Assist in the design and implementation of accounting systems and procedures, including the development and maintenance of computer systems, programs, and files.Interpret and implement new or revised accounting pronouncements, Florida Statues, Florida Law, Rules of the Florida Auditor General, OMB Circular 133 and any other applicable grantor agency, Federal or State regulations. Display high standards of integrity and ethical conduct. Establish and manage work and projects effectively to ensure work standards are met.Keep up to date on best practices available in accounting and implement those appropriate to the Division.QualificationsEducation and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or a related field and five years of professional accounting experience. Experience in governmental accounting or auditing preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may be substituted for the education or experience requirement.
