Cogdell Memorial Hospital is Hiring a Certified Nurse Assistant Near Snyder, TX

Description

Current knowledge and skills in performing job responsibilities specific to the age and type of patient population served. Knowledge and sensitive to patients’ rights. Written and verbal communications are clear and understandable. Recent appropriate experience in caring for the patient population to be served. Demonstrates knowledge of and understanding of normal limits of vital signs and documents appropriately.

Requirements

Minimum Qualification:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Current certification as a Nurse Aide in the state of Texas

Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient, including pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
  • Provides patient care that meets the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient within the CNA's scope of practice.
  • Assists with patient admissions, discharge and transfers.
  • Provides morning care which may include bed bath, shower, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patients, changing bed linen, cleaning overbed table and bedside stand, straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the shift.
  • Provides evening care which includes hands/face washing as needed, oral hygiene, back rubs, peri-care, freshening linen, cleaning overbed tables, straightening room and other general care as needed.
  • Provides general nursing care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bedpan, commode and ambulating patients.
  • Prepares patients for meals; serves and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patients if necessary.
  • Distributes drinking water and snacks to patients as applicable.
  • Answers patients' call lights, anticipates patients' needs and makes rounds of assigned patients.
  • Transports patients to various departments for ordered tests/procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform procedures within the CNA II's scope of practice per state law.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure and intake-output.
  • Reports patient complaint of pain to supervising RN and LVN.
  • Observes patient's mental and physical conditions, reports any changes to supervising RN and LVN.
  • Knowledgeable of sterile techniques and infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Participates in patient care conferences.
  • Communicates in a clear and concise manner to RNs and medical staff.
  • Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Attends inservice education programs, as assigned, to learn new treatments, procedures, developmental skills etc.
  • Treat patient and families with respect and dignity.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Professional Requirements:

  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.
  • Attends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.
  • Attends staff meetings annually, reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Responds within the 30 minute response time when on-call.
  • Attends mandatory meetings held within the department.
  • Adjust work hours/schedule to meet the needs and demands of the department and hospital.
  • Competencies are met and documented.
  • Aware of all Emergency Disaster Plans and how to respond if a Disaster occurs.
  • Works effectively with others, demonstrates leadership and teaching ability and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Appreciation of and desire to be part of a health care team dedicated to providing patients optimal care.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Previous hospital or nursing home aide experience preferred; medical terminology as it relates to job; basic Microsoft office computer skills or the ability to learn such skills.

Additional Requirements with or without Reasonable Accommodation:

Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, communicate in English, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry over 100 lbs, perceive depth.

Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours. Exposure to body fluids and/or infection from disease-bearing specimens, exposure to chemicals/biohazardous/radioactive substances, exposure to explosive/flammable chemicals or gases, exposure to patient/visitors under a wide variety of circumstances.

Mental demands include; alertness, analytic ability, memory, concentration, judgment, initiative, precision, creativity and communication.
