Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP is Hiring a Collections Specialist Near New York, NY

Overview

The Collections Specialist is responsible for the timely collections of client invoices through the use of effective collection strategies for the New York Office. This role primarily works with Partners, Finance Leaders, and Billing & Collections staff in the New York office. The Collections Specialist will help support the department’s initiative and on occasion also work with colleagues located in other global offices of the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an effective relationship with the Collections Manager, Revenue Controller, Chief Financial Officer and other Firm Leaders.
  • Develop an effective “business partner” relationship with the Billing teams and Cash Receipts teams in New York and in other firm locations.
  • Ensure timely collections of Client invoices through the implementation of effective collections strategies as developed by the firm, including:
  • Monitoring and analysis of individual client portfolios, client payment history and trends, preparation of client status reporting and monthly collections projections.
  • Periodic (monthly) consultation with Billing Partners to discuss existing client portfolios and agree activities to achieve improvement in payment strategies.
  • Prepare collections strategy recommendations for specific clients to accelerate payment to the firm.
  • Communication with clients via phone, email or reminder letters to confirm receipt and agree payment terms on outstanding client invoices.
  • Assist in reallocation of unidentified or unapplied client payments, as well as, researching client discrepancies, e.g. short payments, duplicate payments, etc. and working closely with billing specialists concerning status of client accounts.
  • Perform other assigned tasks and duties, under the direction of the Collections Manager, necessary to support the Accounts Receivable department.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience at a professional services firm (law firm industry experience is a plus)
  • Strong academic credentials with a Bachelor’s Degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, overall and in major (Finance or Accounting degree is a plus)
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, specifically MS Excel, and database skills (knowledge of Aderant software is a plus)
  • Detailed-oriented with excellent organizational, interpersonal, quantitative and communication skills
  • Results oriented and highly organized
  • Strong time management, analytical and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work with all levels, administrative, managers and partners
  • A team player with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
