Clearway Community Energy LLC is Hiring a Plant Engineer Near Pittsburgh, PA

SUMMARY Reporting to the General Manager, the Project/Plant Engineer is responsible for all aspects of providing engineering services, project management, and business development support for Pittsburgh division of the Clearway Community Energy including district energy and cogeneration. This position will work closely with Plant Managers to track facilities and equipment performance parameters, coordinate appropriate testing to determine root cause of problems, recommend appropriate and cost-effective solutions to correct problems and improve efficiency. This position will also be responsible for carrying out special projects associated with the operation, maintenance, or retrofit of the existing assets, and engineering and project management for future expansion projects. Working closely with the Business Development Manager, the Project/Plant Engineer will assist in all stages of growth projects related to new customers and renewals, developing cost estimates, modeling, and drafting service agreements. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY RESULTS Engineering & Project ManagementPerform and/or coordinate engineering design modifications. This includes design, specification writing, and system installation and testing to ensure success of the project.Perform as a Project Manager of capital projects by coordinating input from engineering and operations, developing scope and cost of work, preparing all necessary project documents, preparing cost justification, work with procurement department for bid preparation documents, prepares project budget and schedule with input from construction, supports construction on the installation and testing of the project. Perform periodic forecasting for CAPX and Major Maintenance projects. Plant Operations & Maintenance SupportProvide engineering analysis, inspections, and support to operations to keep facilities running at their maximum reliability and performance levels while maintaining personnel safety, asset reliability and environmental compliance.Review and analyze predictive and preventive maintenance data. Monitor system efficiency. Identify and troubleshoot deviations from expected values that would improve system performance. Develop and track Key Performance Indicators.Make recommendations on reducing operational and maintenance expenses either by improving system design, modifying system practices, recommending alternate equipment designs, etc.Review/Optimize fuel consumption and energy production and update associated efficiency metrics.Provide long range planning for maintenance, repair and capital improvement projects. Maintain rolling 5-year plans for Capex/Major Maintenance Projects. Administer project approvals and updates thru the SharePoint and ERP system.Stay abreast of developments in the district energy and CHP industry and recommend modifications or practices that could improve safety, performance, availability and reliability.Provide technical leadership in support of equipment commissioning and start-up.Lead performance tests, equipment performance monitoring and trending.Compile and analyze operating data and help develop operational plans and equipment recommendations to optimize facility performance and profitability.Assist in the development of various operations and data reports for internal and external distribution.Work closely with maintenance staff regarding mechanical/maintenance issues, ensuring compliance for piping and valves, pumps and exchangers, etc.Support the development and review of operating procedures.Establish a working relationship with O&M; staff and contractors and maintain complete equipment and systems maintenance, test history, and design configuration databases.Support development of the annual operations and maintenance budgets based upon knowledge of operating and maintenance requirements. Assist in the analysis of monthly budget variances.Support the establishment and enforcement of safe working conditions and practice safe work habits in all activities. Sales SupportSupport the Sales and Marketing group by providing input on new customer interconnection requirements, analysis of existing customer energy usage profiles and life cycle economics.Complete studies and analysis to identify optimal capacity additions and distribution expansion routing and configuration and develop cost estimates for possible options.Support development of financial modelREQUIREMENTSExperience & EducationBachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related required. 5 years of experience working in one or more aspects of the design, construction, and operation of utility, industrial or institutional projectsExperience serving as lead project or construction manager or as a member of a project management team with significant demonstrated responsibility involved in the design and construction of utility, industrial or institutional projects in excess of $1,000,000Direct experience in the areas of combined heat and power, central utility plants, and utility distributions systems a plusPMP Certification preferred, but not requiredRegistered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred, but not requiredLEED certification a plusKnowledge & SkillsTeam player; able to work with all levels of the organization.Experience in the design, construction and operations of boilers, chillers, gas turbines, engines and ancillary equipment.Knowledge of steam and water pipe distribution systems including the ability to perform or manage hydraulic modelling.Have a good understanding of local utility tariffs and programs along with their business impact.Understanding of building HVAC systems and technologies.Knowledge of a variety of process control technologies including single loop controllers, PLC based systems and building DDC systemsKnowledge of a variety of metering technologies and their applicationsExcellent quantitative skills.Strong computer skills to include spreadsheets, project management, databases, and word processingExpereince with project scheduling software, MS Project or equivalent.Superior interpersonal skills.Proven planning and organizational skills.Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure.Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and toidentify problems and solutions without constant guidance.Uses discretion concerning confidential and sensitive company information.
